If I was flashed, would I realise straight away?

Anyway of finding out if the camera is actually on? / If anyones going past and can tell from looking at the camera from far if it's on or off, please let me know.

keep within speed limit and you wont need to worry about speed camera :p

I doubt if you will be fined for going 4 mph over, besides this, it is very rare for a car speedometer to be absolutely accurate. Both my cars tell me I am doing 30 mph when in fact the speed is only 27 / 28. The last time I was flashed was in Oxford (four years ago) going towards the Motorway, but have never had a ticket :)

No real way to tell if it's on, even if it was a dummy camera at one point they may have swapped around the internals to change it to functional camera and another one to a dummy camera. Dummy Gatso's can still flash although they'll tend to be set at lower limits (to give people a warning) and will also flash at oncoming drivers. Was it a Gatso (rear facing) or a Truvelo (front facing)? If your speed was reading just 4mph over the limit I'd be surprised if you'll hear anything further, if you're the registered keeper the police/scp have 14 days to get the Notice of Intended Prosecution to you.

Thanks for the replys, the camera was a Gatso, I couldn't see the lenses as I approached, could only see the lenses or a possible flash through my rear view mirror.

Damnnn, I'm so paranoid!

listen carefully,
1. return to the scene of the dreaded speed camera making sure you take with you the following items:- step ladders
socket set
assorted screwdrivers
voltage testers
balaclava(most important item)
fireworks(could be most important item)
2. after setting up the step ladder to a secure footing, undo the speed camera fascia
3.once undone take your voltage tester and check for 230v between live (brown wire) and neutral(blue wire)
4.if the results are that its OFF,pack up your things and return home!
5.if the results are that its ON,insert firework and return home!

Just wondering if I did get flashed, it would be the first time, would I get 3 points and a £60 find or get the option to go to a speed awareness programme?

Depends on many factors, some areas don't run speed awareness courses, some will only offer them if free places are available, the criteria for the courses vary etc. I think you're best waiting to see if you get a NIP or not as you may be worrying for nothing.

I know someone who was caught by that camera last week, so it is on and working. Most are digital now as well, so you can't even hope it has ran out of film.

Was the driver above the speed limit by any chance?

It doesn't matter if it flashes or not - dummy cameras flash as well, you're not supposed to be able to tell if it's a genuine working camera or not.
