I really cudnt give a **** if I'm honest. Screw them imo. When they broke up and he went to some posh bar and spent a grand in there (of our money I might add) and that made national news! I mean what's is wrong with this world when that makes news. Much worse things happening in the world than doesn't include those retards. Sorry if I've offended anyone but the royal house spent approximately 26 million quid a few year back on booze and parties, ever since then I gave up. I mean wtf!? What a joke, people are struggling just to treat their family to burger king and these guys are too busy jacking off to fox hunting and being all 'high society' its a joke!
Noone or very few people care about this thing and only reason we tolerate it is because we get paid leave. That's my take on it anyway and I don't mean to offend, its just my honest opinion.

It is mine and the wifes 17th wedding anniversary on the 30th of April and we are much more interested in that than the royal wedding..

Wonder if they will throw a party for us?
Doubt it lol 8)

I think it's great.

If it makes people happy then I'm all for it.

I'm watching it for the same reason I was presidential inaugurations and other Royal events - the chance of an assassination attempt.

Having said that I know I have at least one videoconference on that day because (funnily enough) the rest of the world is still working.

Cheers for the free day off!! Yes, i'll be watching it...living history...although any excuse to get drunk!

a bloody shed load.

Anyone stupid enough to fall at the first hurdle with this "they cost us an arm an a leg through taxes" crap need to remember three words:

THE CROWN ESTATE

Do a bit of research and see how much money they actually bring in.

Use google if it helps.

Exactly - look at places like Paris or New York and there's no tourists whatsoever because they don't have a Royal family, whereas the only reason people visit Amsterdam is on the remote chance that they will see the Dutch Royal Family.

Do you need the Royal family to manage the property owned by the Crown Estate? It seems to me like you could remove the Royal Family and then just run it via Parliament.

In fact....

Although still belonging to the monarch and inherent with the accession of the throne, it is no longer the private property of the reigning monarch and cannot be sold by him/her, nor do the revenues from it belong to the monarch personally. It is managed by an independent organisation headed by the Crown Estate Commissioners. The surplus revenue from the Estate is paid each year to HM Treasury. The Crown Estate is formally accountable to Parliament, to which it makes an annual report

Not sure the properties will have the same appeal with the 'owner' being David Cameron somehow.

The monarchy are extremely important to this country, both historically and currently in terms of tourism and extra bank holidays. :D

Regardless of anybodies personal opinion of the Monarchy, they are a huge financial asset to this country.

I'm pretty sure we have plenty of attractions without needing a monarchy - other countries manage. In fact countries that have removed either their's or our Royal Family are still very pleasant places to visit.

Plus I have issues with people being born into positions of power - it should be earned.

They will get married at great cost to the tax payer, they will have 2 or 3 kids, they will split up, that is what they do.

Waste of space.

I don't disagree with you in terms of people being born into power, but I'm willing to forego my personal opinion on this if it's just one family.

I like the history it has to offer. I like the romance, torture, injustice, conquering, battles, beheadings and all else that goes with it (including the red hot poker up the bum with Edward II).

It's part of who we are as a country and it's what attracts millions to our shores every year.

I'm fine with just one family have a few perks if it means we continue to get the benefit.

I'm going to work that day as normal. I'll take a day off in lieu in a few weeks time. That way I can get some systems work done while everybody is out of the office and get a free day off when it's not packed out everywhere.

As for the royal family, I reckon they've had it as soon as Chuck gets in. The Queen still commands a lot of respect so I don't think much will happen while she's still alive, but I don't think anybody rates Charlie boy very highly.

I think he'll pass it straight to Wills.

I doubt that very much, it's what he should do, but I dont believe he has the integrity to do so.

I wont be watching OP, we will be taking the advantage of an extra day off and taking the children out for the day

Will be watching me.

The royals are liked by the majority of the world and ppl always talk of the Queen when referring to England.
I like the titles but not always the ppl behind it.

I'll b working when nearly everyone else gets a day off :(

why aren't they getting married on a Saturday ?
#32
err - i was married on a wednesday........

I know you can get married any day of the week, but had they got married on a Saturday it would have caused less of a fuss as regards to firms giving or not giving the day off.
#34
Having chimneys swept then going for a game of golf.

But hope the day goes well for what seems to be a nice young couple.
#35
Not interested, glad the children are off school though. Some people I know are getting paid double time for working that day,so good for them too.
#36
Couldn't care less.

My invite turned out to be a fake, so I can safely say I have no interest.

It was on though as I walked into the living room (missus watching!) It does make me wonder if they are taking it serious. I mean who's ever seen a wedding where its fancy dress and the groom and best man in Sgt Peppers outfits!

I know it's an old adage, but these people really do look like horses.

It's safe to say the amount of people interested outweighs the cynical few (me included).

Speaking to people in other countries, it's just as bad as here, particularly Germany.

It does seem as though the moronic, fatuous element of this country is out in full force today watching this pathetic spectacle.

If you do want real news though, Al Jazeera is actually doing it's job still.

Scratch that - even Al Jazeera is covering this.
