lights should be on a separate circuit to sockets, Ensure all lights upstairs are switched off then switch them on one at a time to see if any are tripping the breaker.

Does the trip switch have a push to test button on it, if so then it is an RCD. This means that it could be any on the MCB's that it protects. Turn off all the MCB's it is protecting then turn the RCD on and flick the MCB'c until you find the faulty cct. then remove all items from that cct and pleg them back in until you find the faulty item.

If it is just on MCB that keeps tripping, then remove all items from that cct, then turn on the trip switch and plug items back in until you find the faulty item.

If you require any more help then please do not hesitate to PM me (Mr Jelli89!).

Turn off completely then on one by one and check what each switch is for then you will be able to work out what it is tripping it, or if it is the old style trip boxes check all the fuse wires in each switch and check they don't need new wire.

If my main fuse trips I have to push the breaker lever all the way down before it will stick back in the up position.

Is it stuck halfway? If so, try pushing it down all the way before resetting it back up.

Well, did any of these suggestions help you?

Or do you just post and never say thanks for any help you get?

Strobez has posted something like 926 help threads in the past couple of years. He never returns to say thanks, he just hasn't got the time.

We had an electrician out recently done something similar but he rushed me so I didn't do it properly, he found our board was not legal and seems the original installer kept everything but one circuit on the RCD as the lights kept tripping, they couldn't be bothered to fix it. Apparently it's fine for me to remove MCB's from the board when the main breaker is off?

Girlfriend had this, water was getting into an outside light. This caused it to trip and it took a while before it'd work again
