Currently got a Peugeot 307 2.0 sport which is far too smal with two kids now and only does 20MPG. Been looking at VW Passats, Ford Mondeos, and people carriers. which offer better mpg.

Curenlty going though a mini mid life crisis and thinking fcuk it I work bl00dy hard and deserve something nice. Just wondering what people thought of theirs and what costs wise it is to run it?

Guides say it does about 31mpg (Auto/Diesel).

Any opinions would be welcome.

Which Merc is that 2200? C220 CDI? My brother has a C270 cdi he drives a maniac and gets 25+mpg, i've got a Fiesta 1.4 tdci and get on average 45 mpg. Got 51mpg once driving slower especially on motorways.

My recomendation is actually a Mondeo estate diesel. Cheap to buy, great engine, cheap to run etc.

To be honest the extra price you're paying to buy a diesel car is reaching a point where it ain't worth it as it costs about 10p/litre premium on fuel price!

Sit down and do some maths with how many miles you do etc etc.

I agree to your comment!

Mercs are lovely cars in more ways than one, if it's a 220 CDI the OP is referring to please ensure that you are aware of the running costs, albeit for any Merc - i.e. higher insurance premiums, possible higher road tax, servicing charges etc...

If any of the above aint an issue for you then good luck with your purchase, Mercedes Benz make some of the finest cars in the world!

P.S. The auto/diesels are the ones to go for.
