There is that deal at tesco about buying a HD TV and getting free HD sky not sure of full details, and is kind dependent if you need a new TV, but it applies to even the smallest ones,

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/371547/free-sky-hd-box-when-you-buy-any-tv/

someone suggets buying one getting the installation then returning the TV

Not always a good idea. You would have to sign up in a completely different name with different payment details or you could end up being worse off and going a few days without your Sky.

£49 is a pretty good deal compared to what some people were paying a few months ago (£199+ £60 install)

Although if you decide to go for it ask nicely if they could give you the first months HD pack free (if you sign up online and pay the installation you'd also get this, so its an offer they do have on their systems and are able to apply)

Problems can (but not always, been mentioned elsewhere so long as Sales process's the new order it's not a problem) occur if you have been a Sky Customer in the previous 12months...

Thanks guy's, I don't fancy the hassel of cancelling and then setting up a new account though. damm those new customer only policies.

maybe I should just look at cancelling and see if they can offer me anything cheaper monthly and just hold out for hd

Just be really firm with them, give them a load of waffle about loyalty and how new cutomers are getting something much better, talk about how Virgin are offering 20mb broadbanf etc those kind of things usually work in your favour, oh but try not to get angry, the people on the phone have the power to give you the world if they want to

oh well just spoke to them again and they have given me 20% off for 6 months and I'll hold out for hd. apparently they will drop the monthly charge once they have enough customers (like sky+).

better than a poke in the eye
#16
I can't see them dropping SkyHD Surcharge for 2years+

They only just dropped SKY from £299 early 2008, to £130 last year to £49 now.

Sky+ only went free to stb and subscribe to after SkyHD came out.

So a successor to SkyHD will need to be on the horizon 1st IMO.

If you ignore the slightly dodgy Sky deal on at the moment with codes etc.

SkyHD with quidco = £120 within 3months, £25 Tesco Voucher (current offer), £49 outlay for SkyHD, free installation and then minimum 12x£9.75 + whatever mix you take out.

That's for new customers, not existing ones.

like I said, best deal for existing customers is 49 for box plus the 9.75 monthly charge, they should drop the install fee if you already have +
