yes we were just saying you can't hear the fans chanting and wondering if there's a sound filter to take the bees away.

I turned off the sound, but it is not the same. Apart from an alternative commentary from within a soundproof cubical, I suppose there is not much that can be done. What's the betting that we'll hear vuvuzelas in every game from now on after the fans return with them? Hopefully the clubs will ban them :)

They will never be banned as it is a part of South African football and will be seen as a right kick in the teeth if FIFA come along and tell them how to run their matches.

Must admit I am becoming a bit immune to them now and only really notice them if I try to listen for them.

It's annoying that its constant. They don't just blow them during periods of high tempo or when there team is in the ascendancy, it doesn't create an atmosphere any more than a blue-bottle in your living room does when you watch the football. So when a goal is scored you don't hear the fans celebrate. You don't hear fans boing at time-wasting. You don't hear fans reacting to contentious decisions .There is no atmosphere at the games just a constant tuneless drone.

I can see a stitch up happening where people start throwing them on the pitch to get them banned.

When there was talk about people being banned rom wearing England shirts in pubs ec...they were like "Its our country! why should we stop wearing them"

Well in South Africa, its the same principle. Why should South Africans stop using them in THEIR country.

The horns arent even that bad.

I am all for culture and all that but maybe they could reserve them for the South Africa games, or at least tone them down a bit for the other games.

I agree it would have more of an impact in South african games, but with players such as Messi and Ronaldo they cant concentrate because of them, means that it could shake the cup up a bit..
#15
Maybe it will attract the bees back to planet earth?

I hate it though, the England match is the only one I haven't switched off.

Fair enough. I guess all i want is for people to use them with some logical intent behind it. Not just blowing on them at the same rate and creating the same drone regardless of how the game is being played. Seems strange that a slow paced non-event game like Algeria-Slovenia has the same atmosphere as the home nations run-out against Mexico.

I'm just tired of it and the fact that on occasions it sounds liek my mobile vibrating against a table. I keep going for my phone. Grrrr

It is really irritating.
Haven't the French said that they couldn't concentrate in the racket and that was why they couldn't play up to par?
The news hinted this morning that protests were being made.
It's a rubbish way to support anyway.

Did I say really irritating? I meant really, really irritating.

Meanwhile, back in an English country garden I had a fly over from a real swarm of bees!

They are annoying but it's their culture, Who are we to dictate?

The best thing the broadcasters could do is remove them which shouldn't be to hard with today's technology or even 40's technology for that matter.

Clearly majority of us don't like the annoying sound, So no real reason for the broadcasters to keep it.

I guess if they remove / reduce the pitch side microphones then this would minimise the sound but what would replace the sound of them then, it would either have to be virtual silence or immitation crowd noise.

Surely they can easily use a filter to cut them out, They are a certain frequency.
#22
Removing it from the TV/Radio feed is only half the problem though, players and fans in the stadiums are also complaining.

Kind of funny really, don't see the culture reference personally. If they were all hand carved out of some exotic wood fair play, but plastic horns from China, not that cultural in my opinion.

Haha - yes, thought there was a real swarm of bees coming over and was distracted!!

TBH if I can hardly think straight sitting in the living room watching on the telly, it must be really bad in the stadia, particularly when you aren't used to it. I used to think that the constant whistling in Spain etc was dreadful, until this.
#24
What are people moaning about - they do it differently in Africa to how we celebrate in europe - they did the same in the African cup of nations

Do we really feel the need to tell them how to run the world cup now? We've been in africa before telling them what to do and that went badly so let them enjoy the fact they have the world cup and enjoy ti the way they want to
#25
My solution is to give them all harmonicas or duck beak whistles before entering the ground.
#27
Their culture, their choice. It would seem however to make more sense if they had drums or suchlike. At least with drums you could have a rhythm going. Vuvuzelas just produce a din.
#28
If I was in the stadium or even a player, I would have earplugs.

Surprised the players don't already (let's face it - they're going to struggle to hear their team mates and manager anyway)

I don't like background noise.

damn that african culture.......wheres the usual racist/monkey chants and flares and fireworks being set off like the good old days

They're just simpletons, the lot of 'em.

was watching telly while I ate my lunch and there was an item on the news about them, the factory that make them are going to alter the mouthpiece to make them a bit quieter, louder than a drum at the moment.

She's suspended because she constantly goes into threads and writes to another member, " how are you [insert member name] hope you are well"....or shell make extremely unsubtle digs at HUKD members right in the middle of a thread discussion, which is trolling.

I don't mind the noise op it's not THAT annoying in my opinion, if you have an iPhone and want to wind up your friends/family/general public, download the vuvuzela app, it's loud and sounds exactly like it haha!
