Anyone had any trouble with Health Visitors punctuality ??

Hey all

Just wondering if anyone has had or are having trouble with their Health Visitors turning up late or not at all?
Lisa was informed that someone would be at 10am last week and had waited in all day for her to come, Lisa then received a call at 5pm explaining that she couldn't find the door! Now I'm pretty sure all visitors carry mobiles on them or have them at hand so could easily have called to say she couldn't find it and could Lisa direct her. I personally think she never turned up at all and used the "couldn't find the address" as a cover up.

Then yesterday a visitor was supposed to visit at 3:30pm, no one came and no one called at all....all day! Today Lisa is marching up to the Health Centre to give them a talking to lol, she was not at all happy yesterday OOoooerrr !!

So has anyone had any trouble with visitors etc?

Oh before I forget, do you think some are just a bit o.t.t with things? The Health visitor (one that did come) told Lisa not to watch Tv while feeding at night and got really personal! Lisa couldn't believe what was coming from the visitors lips
Does anyone think their also very intrusive ?

One of my friends Zara had to tell the visitor to p*** off out her house as she got really bad

why are they like that? is it because their all old and set in their stupid ways

Maybe your health visitors are very over stregthed? How old ifs your baby now?

And it is strange to tell her not to watch tv mine use to encourage it of a night feed. Just so not to fall back asleep :)

yeah most are idiots who dont even have kids themselves...one made my friend cry as she was finding it hard to breastfeed and the HV made her feel bad about it

my one i felt was looking down her nose at me and didnt like the fact i bottle fed, i let her say her piece then she asked for someone different

@ tinkytails, she is only 3 half weeks old

@ilovepink, yeh I finished at 3pm yesterday and was hoping to be in when she came round, I will not put up with that! It's our business to bring up our kid the way we see fit to...not under some idiots advice

They should have more thought and care to new mothers in any given instances

lol, ours could never remember anything about mom or baby, she would often get confused with other patients and even asked oh if she needed another prescription of the doc for some tablets (even thou she was'nt on any)

+1, It's a mothers choice at the end of the day so why do they insist on making you feel like you are harming your child. Oh asked the HV if she breastfed and Hv admitted she had'nt , eventually

To give a balanced view, we've had 2 different HVs visit over the past year and they've both been lovely people. Bang on time, polite, helpful, friendly and non-judgmental. I guess it depends entirely on who you get.

ifyour not happy with HV get another, my first was a witch and i chucked her out after a week. My one now is OK straight talking no bull. As you see quite a bit of teh HV first 2 years, jabs, progress check ups and helps to keep it amicable

I hated when the HV came - had to make sure the place was reasonably tidy (even though they say a bit of dust never hurt anyone and to get some rest) yeah right! Remember very first time pregnant someone told me that the HV will ask to wash their hands first to catch you out so you had to keep the sink clean too though not all of them did but I always made sure it was just in case!

Never had a problem with them not turning up though - they were always quite early unfortunately so I was never dressed.

Oh so your partner will soon be asked to go to the clinic than the hv go to her soon then x

My Hv were always good but i have heard some horror stories from others x

Mine at the beginning was fab, because I also have a disabled son who needs 24/7 care, she realised that trips to weighing clinics were hard to arrange, so she used to come out once a month, but she left 3 mths ago, the one since hasn't even had a child, and when I asked her for advice on weaning told me that my dd wasn't getting enough milk at 900ml a day and solids, when I asked my GP for advice, she said nonsense, thats more than enough, when I confronted the hv, she said she'd miscalculated, thought 900ml was less than a pint??? but to be fair re times, it is hard to be completely accurate, as appts with previous people run over etc, though a courtesy phone call should be made.
I will be asking for a different hv for the one due in Aug, would prefer one that can do basic maths at least and one that knows what it's like to have a newborn baby in the house rather than from the sounds of it a much spoilt over indulged house rabbit lol

were i used to live they were rubbish, where i am now no problems at all, infact tried to get help for my daughter for a year and a half where i used to live, they just made me feel like i was crazy, moved here a few months ago and shes been diagnosed already, and they cant throw enough help at us, and the health visitor calls every now and again to see if we need any more help, and if everything is moving along

My first Health visitor with AM was wonderful. My heart sunk when I first met her cos she was old and I fugured old= stuck in their ways and bad. I couldn't have been more wrong. She was amazing and really went a bove and beyond with helping me once I was Diagnosed with PND. When she retired Am was about 8 months and I saw the new HV once and refused to see her again. I had never met such a judgmental so and so!!!!

She left the surgery pretty quick and with NO 2 I'll have a new one that I have yet to meet. Kinda dreading that TBH.

In short I think its hit or miss but to me it made little difference as I could always pop into the clinic if I needed anything. I never saw a health visitor on a one on one visit after AM was a year old anyway infact I think the last time was when he went for his hearing test at 8 months and I don't think they do that here anymore. It was always the doc or the practice nurse that done the jags up here.

We were also told by the HV that we SHOULDN'T be feeding Katie with "Hungry Baby" Aptimal food. She said she should be put back straight on to 1 as soon as possible, the digestive system has to work harder and she might have constipation....... Katie has no constipation and is thriving off of the hungry babies formula
