anyone had their Nokia repaired under warranty?

Hi all.

Just wondering really if Nokia are a bit 'mean' when it comes to fixing phones under warranty.

I gave my phone to Phones4U to send to Nokia this week but am worried they will try and get out of fixing it by blaming the faults on me or something?

I got the phone unlocked when I first got it and, although the phone worked perfectly until about 4/5 months later, I thought this may be a good enough reason (in their eyes) for them to not fix it?

The phone is a 5800 and it started freezing up. Firstly, I could no longer use the internet on it cos it would just freeze, then this graudated to the phone also freezing on a white screen at least once every day or 2 after I had made a call (I would have to remove the battery to restart it) and then it stopped playing my mp3s as well - it would show them playing but no noise would play.

This seems like a software problem to me so this is why I am worried. I also have a few apps installed on it, though none of them were newly installed when these problems started occuring.

Can anyone ese please share their experiences with Nokia warranty repairs?

Than yous x

exact same happened to mine - took it to phones4u as well who said we can take it off you send away etc or take it to the local nokia specialists which was literally 100 yards away

gave it to them they returned it to me 24 hours later fixed and had no probs since

its the usual speak regards warrenty etc but it seems to be common problem with the 5800 as was with mine

good luck

Should be ok imo, although I always use a Carphone Warehouse repair centre. They will fix your phone regardless of where you bought it.

i had an N95 with a dodgy screen - took it back to vodaphone who sent it to nokia as i was still under contract ( 3 weeks left on it ) they sent me a spanking new one :) upgraded a couple of weeks later and flogged the "brand new" phone... spankyou very much nokia :)

One thing I will say, before the iPhone, I used to use Nokia, they have the worst customer service in the world! - Never ask for call backs because it never happens.

Take it to a service centre would be best, ask them where the local one is in Phones 4 U.

Phones4U said 7-10 working days so am eagerly awaiting them to phone me

I don't think it matter where I took it because Phones4U are only sending it to Nokia anyway - I went to Nokias website and it had a list of stores I could drop the phone off to - T-Mobile, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U, O2 all on the same High Street

Did you get your 5800 unlocked Denver? And/or have lots of apps on it?

Now that would be fab, that did come to mind but I thought it was wishful thinking LOL!
Mine is perfect anyway though as it always has a screen protector and case on it so not really fussed - wouldn't mind a new battery though :-D

There used to be a service centre I would have used but it closed down, I couldn't see one within reasonable distance on the Nokia website - have already given the phone into Phones4U :)

My 5800 went pear shaped.... Could open up a web page but if I tried to navigate away it just locked up. Hooked it up to the pc and did an update via Nokia. Touch wood it's good as gold again :)

That's EXACTLY how mine started - I could maybe navigate to the first web page I directed it to but beyond that no chance. I did see about updating the firware before but I remember something put me off doing it, can't think what it was.

Hopefully if it just needs updating/flashing then they will just do it for me and send it back

Did you need to get the PC suite working and connected to do it? I never managed to get mine working so maybe that's why I didn't do it

I also couldn't figure out how to remove the apps I had on there that I had accidentally installed on the phone memory. I only had about 200kb free memory which I thought maybe contributed to the problem

I thought it might have been the apps so I did a factory reset........and it left everything on there! Just googled Nokia 5800 update and went via the Nokia site. Plugged it in and two minutes later it was all working again.

Hmmm... okay - I really can't remember why I didn't do it then :?

I tried the factory reset too - just resulted in me having to set up my ringtone, wallpaper and shortcuts again! :giggle:

Oh well, I feel a bit more reassured now that others have been okay an also that this seems to be a common problem - thanks everyone :)
