This is life..try not to let things get on top of you. If you dwell on negative stuff then it festers.

Yes i realise it is a clinical condition, but sometimes some people let misery take hold of their lives and use it to feel sorry for themselves and then decide it is depression by self diagnosis. I accept geniuine diagnosed depression is a terrible illness but i don't like people that wallow in self pity for attention, there is a difference.

Remove yourself away from whatever is getting you down even if it is only a short breathing space, don't play sad music, stick on a happy tune and sing your head off. Force yourself to do something silly at least once a day. Hang around with positive people.

yes i do,i find its a vicious circle to me..i have no confidense, feel like i cant go out as i feel people r looking at me..so i stay in then feel like a bad mother and a failure as a parent as i dont take the children out as much as i should
mine gets worse when something bad happens my mum has recently had a masectomy and is now having chemo so im worried sick about her, then there r other things that i will worry myself sick about other people will laugh at my worries but i cant snap out of it,the panick attacks r the worst sometimes i cant go to sleep as each time i try i panick something bads gonna happen and i have to get up and have some fresh air,

im going to see someone next month so i hope that helps as im sick of taking pills infact i cant even swallow the pills anymore i have to crush them as im to paranoid of choking and dying lol

no real advice for u apart from try speaking to ur doctor,u r not alone x

sometimes you cant always get away from what depresses you, try getting something possitive to work towards, be it education, fitness a hobbie of somesort.
i joined a gym and do lots of running, makes you feel healthier as well as taking your mind off what is bothering you, gives you a place to relax and somewhere different to go. working towards a martathon eventually.
speaking to you GP wont do you any harm.

I am 44 and suffered for all my life had two breakdowns and suicidal thoughts and made elaborate plans on how to end it all. Without the love and support of my family I know that I would not be here now.

Individual therapy is what works for me not in groups as I have to lot's to think about without listening to other peoples problems! take up a hobby and lead a clean and healthy life and most of all talk about it to your loved ones and tell them how you feel on the bad days. You can't cure it just manage it. Good luck!

My average daily sleeping time is about 2-3 hours... and it's been nearly 6 month now. Feel be strangled, wanna change current situation, but so helpless.

I wouldn't say I was depressed, but there are some days that everything feels terrible, and there's no getting away from it, it's like a dark cloud hanging over. Usually lasts for 3 or 4 days, then I start to feel better.

For those who feel they are depressed...

Firstly consider whether you are really depressed or are currently feeling overwhelmed or under the weather. If the depression has begun relatively a short time ago and seems to disappear with the help of friends/family etc then it may be you just need to reorder your lifestyle.

Secondly, ask yourself if there is a reason you are depressed... do you lead a very stressful lifestyle, are there triggers for your depression, for instance have you moved home within the past year, had a baby, suffered a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, left school, become unemployed or gone through any other serious life change. Are there abuses within your childhood which you may still have difficulties dealing with?

If this is the case then you will need to give yourself a little time to come to terms with the life changes and be kind to yourself in the meantime... don't take on any extra stresses.

If there is a valid understandable reason for feeling depressed then you will need to deal with the causes of these triggers. Some people seek to avoid such causes, others choose to deal with the original triggers and so become more emotionally resilient in that way.

If the depression seems to just come and go with no discernable cause or trigger then consider ways that you have of coping with lifes situations... do you have ways to relax? Do you have emotional support of family and friends? Can you take up a hobby or interest which will fill your mind in a positive way. Exercise is also a fantastic boost to mood as it releases all kinds of natural endorphins into the body.

If the depression is long term ( it lasts months rather than days ) consider going along to see your GP. A course of counselling /medication may help to relieve the depressed feelings.

HTH, if anyone would like to speak to me in private you're welcome to PM me...

Never lose hope, everything will work out just fine x x

Perfect advice this worth making notes! As before I am long term sufferer of Depression who has done the tablets and is now a happy and healthy person that manages my condition with love and support and occasional sessions with the therapist. You can't cure it just manage it!

uncalled for, there is a big difference between being a bit down and depression one day when it happens to you or someone close you will wish you hadn't been so rude so why not keep the insults to yourself then its less to regret
