I think tatoos are awful - why mutilate your body for no good reason.....sorry.

I've got four. It does hurt, but like you said, it's bearable - and it stops the instant the needle is moved away. One of mine caused me to pass out though, and throw up quite a bit. Had to go in two sittings, but the second sitting was OK. Don't know what happened with the first sit, it wasn't my first tattoo either, must've just been a bad day! Or a bad lunch!

People like to put different tattoos on their body just to show the importance that thing has in their lives. I.E Sentimental/memorial reasons + Religious reasons.

Tattoos give people a chance to also express themseleves in an artistic way

I find it hurts for 5-10 minutes and then it settles down (unless they hit a nerve). One of mine was a 4 hour sitting and i nodded off after about an hour and a half. X)

...and maybe to disguise significant pre-existing 'mutilation' or scarring.

I have five and they do hurt, different body parts hurt in different ways. Ankle, wrist, top of arm and neck were all fine but the lower back hurt quite a lot, more so as it got to my sides.

I have about 2 that cover my ribs, from just under my arm to the top of my hip, took 6 hours for 1 and 4 for the other. THAT hurts, but makes the most of my curves and certainly gets attention if I am on the beach in a bikini.
As for reason's, I equate my tattoo's to a bit of artistic self harm, I get them done when something has gone bad in my life, the pain takes it out of my head and I get a bit of a pretty picture after it.
I would put pics up here but I have to be semi naked to show them, and we don't do nudez........lol
My tattoo's are hardly ever on show (I am going on holiday to Wales this year, I can't see me parading about in a bikini in Prestatyn, but you never know)
Got one on each foot too, thats meant to be proper painful but it didn't hurt at all, got 2 on my lower back I got when I was younger, thats nippy, but its nothing too bad, although when I had the ones on my ribs done the blokes doing them said I was doing WAY better than most blokes do.........I must be a bit of a hard bird lol.

start off by getting something small where it wont hurt.

Make sure you can spell correctly ....

It's 'tattoo' and not 'tatoo' as you have in title ....

BIG MISTAKE !!!!!

i have three, both my boys names and my husbands on my wrist-they hurt really bad! all of them, i got my first one when i was 22-so after having my second child i couldnt not get his name too. then my husband-i know people disagree with partners etcs names but he will always be in y life-even if we were to split (which im sure we wont) he is a really good dad to his children and im proud of what he has done for us.
each to there own though-my hubby has about 8-i love three he has-the others im not sure of but thats up to him.
i have a friend who is really nice, an amazing kind person but has tats all over! and i mean everywhere. bold skinhead covered, all down his face-he does look like a thug, but he isnt. i suppose thats face value-people judging

I have lots, I worked as a tattooist for 3 years, but decided I wanted a change and went to uni.
Women on the whole handle tattoos better than men, its not necessarily that i hurts less, but women handle pain better. although, from all the time in the studio, women and men suffered more in different places, men seem to find their back more painful that women.
The place you have it is something to consider if pain is a big issue, its a common misconception that the closer to the bone the more painful, yet some of the most painful places seem to be stomach, bum and round the kidneys. and of course anywhere that theres a high gathering of nerves, so wrists, knees, elbows.
There really isnt any laws about tattooing in britain, there are hygiene laws, but everything else is just guidelines, apart from the underage thing, its classed as bodily harm/assault. Most places, because of decency and risks wont tattoo anyone drunk, under the influence of drugs, pregnant, on blood or heart medication, or an epileptic, unless they have a letter from their doctor. They shouldnt ever carry on tattooing after someone has fainted, but having a snooze is no problem, tattooing can be relaxing to some, and if your sat in a chair for hours it can happen.
anyway, think iv covered any questions so far

oh and btw OP, you can get numbing cream, some tattooists provide it, but u can buy it from the chemist if not, it does work if applied correctly

Had a fair few hours under the needle...

It's like a burning sensation, but you get used to it.

It's bad when they've left an area for a while, then go back to that area, sting!

I'm halfway through a sleeve on my right arm. The artist wasn't too sure about some of his freehand design, so he wiped it off with surgical spirit, after doing the rest of the outline. That **** hurt!! I found the inside of the elbow was complete agony, but the rest is managable, you just have to think of what it will look like as a finished piece.

I doubt you could take the pain of having a tattoo. Maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself. Afterall, I am halfway through the sleeve and it is yet to be coloured or have any definition.
