Hi there HUKDer's. I was just after some advice on broadband suppliers. I have been with tiscali for just over 2 years and have been getting unlimited broadband for £14.99 a month which i was pleased with as we live out of most other networks main areas. However talktalk have just taken them over and the price has gone up to £21.50 a month. has anybody had any experience of being outside of the normal service area (i.e a village:))and got a good deal? or haggled with talktalk?

Can they really put the price of your broadband up, just because they have taken over??? I thought that if you were in contract and on a specific price, that you stayed on that for the life of the contract?

May be wrong, but it seems bang out of order to me!

Be Unlimited

Been with them for 2 years or so and they're great. Reliable and fast - what more could you want. I get 18Mb downlink and because I'm on the pro service I get 2.5Mb uplink too. I can download stuff like Linux DVDs at just under 2MB/s - yes, that's megabytes.

I live in Hull (at university here) and there is no BT infrastructure as it's all owned by Kingston Communications (Karoo). As an upshot you can only get phone and internet services from them unless you go wireless. For 75GB monthly daytime allowance and unlimited between midnight and 8AM, you pay £29.99.

The funny thing is that BT still advertise their cheap fast services on billboards here :?

I think you will fine the 21.50 will include line rental & broadband & calls. They want all of you - not just your broadband! £21.50 is cheap for all of it!

yeah im in the same boat tiscali now talk talk

I amTiscali/Talk Talk too and am just about to call them to get the code required to transfer and see what they offer as I am about to head out the door.

Migration Access Codes - also known as MAC codes, MAC keys or even MAC numbers - allow you to switch broadband provider with ease, and without any break in your service.

nope my £21.50 just gets me broadband, i pay bt my line rental and calls another £16 a month. And you cant get the cheaper talktalk tariffs here as we are outside their main area.

Keep out of fixed contract for now, and search for the best deal. A lot have cash back, I went with Talk talk and I am tracked as having £65 cashback, I work from home so internet is very important.

DO you have business broadband or total care? Many people over look these things until you get a fault on or the other

Talk Talk are b eing stealthy over this one. I just logged in after reading this and its nearly another £7 for no change of service, Ive had the same modem for 5 years with Tiscali.

Im phoning for my MAC code as soon as I can.

the cheek.

Im raging right now.
#23
I just phoned up for the mac code, 25 minutes on hold, and was passed to "a dedicated team" oh yes we are not allowed to tell you your mac code, we will email you it within 5 working days. bye.

Ta Ta Tiscali.

im with tiscali/ talk talk and when i got to either the o2 or sky website it says my phone number doesn't have a BT compatable line. but before i joined tiscali i used to get billed from BT very weird any ideas? saying that tiscali never charged for line rental may be thats it .??
#25
Just got my Mac code today with the following comment, lol.

Please remember, your invoices are in arrears and you are liable to pay for the remainder of your service with Tiscali. Once your final balance has been collected we will automatically stop collecting payment via direct debit/credit card - please do not cancel your payment method with your bank.

Before you switch providers we recommend you go to the Tiscali My Account area to check the new, great value packages available to you. You can change your price and speed at any time. If you change your mind and decide to remain with Tiscali, simply do not use your MAC code.

Kind regards,

Tiscali Broadband Team.

Be thankful you're just at Uni here, I have to live with KC forever it seems!

What is the catch with moving your line rental to Talk Talk anyway?

How can they charge only £8 a month for line rental (btw 12p a minute to phone 0845 numbers, ouch)
