Anyone know about car on here please??

Ok we have had this problem for ages now and we don't know what it could be.
When we have the engine running and at a stand still with the fans on (that blow in heat) we get stunk out with petrol fumes. Although when were driving there isn't a problem.

Car is a Fiat grande punto 1.4 unleaded

Anyone think what it can be?

Thanks

possibly a fuel leak? You may not smell it when moving as the wind blows the smell away?

You think it could be a major problem, it's obvioulsy coming from the engine bay :(

Loose manifold, happened on my golf 1.4 and at the time g/f's 1.1 polo. Check all the bolts are intact on the exhaust manifold.

Diagnose by having the bonnet open, get someone to pump the accelerator pedal and stick your head in near the manifold

Well if it is a fuel leak its easy to diagnose.
Just leave engine running for a while and see if fuel drops onto road. If it is a leak it's probably a loose pipe/connection so not too expensive I wouldn't think.

sorry did you mean petrol fumes or exhaust fumes?

how old is the car?

You're better off asking on fiatforum, have you played about with your air filter recently?

Girlfriend had a fiat 500 which did the same just there,

Pop the bonnet open and look for oil marks or spray around the car. Our problem was the breather pipe had split open. This is a small pipe which is connected to the part on top of the engine cover and goes through to the back.

Could be that, have a look for it.

I think it is that too, but if they have replaced their air filter it might also be the cause. I have heard of the breather pipe splitting on a GP before.

Doubt it, if you go to onto Fiatforum they will have EPER online which is the CD for parts.

Yes no other cars ever have minor or even major faults.
