I have used both Avast and AVG... Avast is by far the best out of the two.. It doesnt slow down your computer like AVG does.

microsoft essentials is good, and free

i have avast on my laptop and avg on my desktop - avast was pretty annoying when the american guy kept on saying 'virus database updated!' especially embarrassing if I was in a cafe or something... managed to shut him up though in the end.

The best of the free ones is actually Microsoft Security Essentials
Its totally free, no advertisements, no annoying pop-ups and no telling you that they have a better version if you pay.

I used to use ESET security essentials and now even though my subscription is paid for till May next year, I use the microsoft one, out of choice because it's so good and it works just as good as the expensive security essentials.

The only advice I'd give is if you do install the Microsoft one, go into Settings, the Advanced and make sure ALL boxes are ticked.

I can read what I like and post what I like, sweetheart. You basically got as many different answers as there are posts on this thread so it's no different to googling. Just lazy.

Avoid AVG - really bad now

Use AVIRA or AVAST
#22
yeah avg is pretty slow

i used avira and can't complain (on linux now), so if you;ve already installed avast and don't like it or want to try another, you should look at

avira antivir: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?part=dl-10322935&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11012914

or (based on others' recommendations, I've not tried it)

Microsoft Essentials: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

You could get loads of different answers on here and to save you time look here:

http://forum.pcformat.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=56570

They have many people to help out who know what they are talking about :)
Thus like i said on test this one came out the best:

http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html

Just make sure you hit the free one
