Anyone know or work with SAS software?

Hi,

I have recently left a data analytic job using a program called MAPPER (an old Unisys programming language) and am looking to expand my opportunities by learning what seems the most popular of the others (Business Objects, Cognos etc).

Does anyone work with, know anything about SAS or have any resources or any books that they could let go for a few quid. As I have no direct experience I think I would need to gain a qualification in order to have a good chance of getting a job.

Any ideas or suggestions would help

Andy

hi. SAS books are relatively expensive due to it being a specialist area of work. The cheapest book I could find when learning it was about £20

http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/413071/SAS-Programming-the-One-Day-Course/Product.html

and it was a very small book lol.....the other book I bought was he basic workings of the language plus examples was around £50.

ISBN: 9781599941653 - Learning SAS by Example: A Programmer's Guide

The software is extremely difficult and expensive to acquire as it costs about £5-10k for a full license however if you use a very popular search engine there are 'downloads' that allow you to 'test' the software before deciding whether wish to purchase it or not.

Excellent, many thanks. I am familiar with the 'downloads' you refer to. Will have a peruse. All the learning options on the SAS site seem a bit pricey considering I have recently lost my job.

Do you think it would be possible to pass the "SAS Certified Base Programmer for SAS 9 Credential" by using an 'evaluation' copy and some cheap literature?

depends on the content of the cheap literature. What I did when I got made redundant was to search for the books in ebook format, download and use those.

total cost = free!

Can I ask if you now work with SAS in your job after teaching yourself? Did you do the exams?
