Engine warning light

Illuminates when the ignition is switched on. It should extinguish as soon as the engine starts.

If it illuminates with the engine running, it indicates a malfunction with the engine management system. Have this checked as soon as possible.

If it flashes when driving, reduce the vehicle speed immediately until the light illuminates constantly. If it continues to flash, avoid heavy acceleration and high engine speed, stop the vehicle and have it checked immediately.

On some vehicles this light may be red – again stop the vehicle and seek assistance.

If it is safe to do so, try stopping the vehicle, switching off the engine, wait two minutes, then restarting the engine to reset the engine management system.

With the light illuminated, the vehicle is still safe to drive as long as no other faults are apparent with the engine. Have the vehicle checked by a dealer or garage as soon as possible to avoid any damage being caused to the catalytic converter.

Engine management light, you are advised not to drive it any further if it is on whilst driving and to contact your dealer asap. Could be a million things (probably the most expensive one)

usually means there is a problem with the engine management system or the emissions system.

Vauxhall Corsa?

Take it to a mechanic and have them read the code, should charge around £30-50 for code reading. that will tell you what is up.

Yeah vauxhall corsa.

I'll be going back to the guy who I bought it from don't you worry about that.

I've only had it for about 2 or 3 weeks. That light has been there since I bought it but I just thought it didn't mean anything major so didn't do nothing. what a **** i was.

Hmm, did you buy it from a dealer? If not I wouldnt expect much from a private sale, sold as seen and all that!

Take it to a garage, I know its not the best thing but I would rather have it sorted properly than have it bodged up by some guy who just wants to save money

Get the codes read, then reset the ODBC codes, then if it re-appears, read the codes again and take it from there.

Buy your self a ODBC 2 code reader for around £35 and do it your self, then you have the code reader for the future,

Just check if its HEX or canbus.

It's from a guy who my grandad has known for years and years and they live opposite eachother just down the road from me, all my family get our cars from him so should be fine:)

If the car is driving fine, more than likely it will be a sensor at fault something like a coolant temp sensor for example.

Get the codes read.

least you dont have a clicking sound hopefully it will be a simple issue

i have experienced the tappets and a cylinder mis fire on my first engine due to an engine fault @ 6000 miles ( outcome was a new engine no problems with it so far 30k miles )

could be heat sensor in the manifold or anything best thing is to get a code reader or the guy you got it from to sort it,

you on corsa c uk forums?
