our son is about to move from the moses basket into the cot - we're using the same cot our daughter had but your supposed to get a new mattress for it.

they seem to cost as much as a new cot!

do most people get new ones & if so where from?

Thanks,
worto.

i used olivers baby care. Seem quite competative for sprung mattresses x

Don't think i'd be worried about changing though unless the old one is well worn??

I would always change mattress as you never forgive yourself if somethign were to happen.
If its a cot bed and will be used past 2 get a sprung mattress i paid £70 for mine as it has a layer you can unzip and wash in case of accidents. I got mine from toy r us or mothercare i forget which. BUt had £5/£10 off via some mum 2 be coupons.

If yo just using a cot so your child will be out of it before ge of 2 , a foam mattress is fine and you can get thse new from about £25

thanks for the info - it's a cot not a cotbed so I'll look for a foam one maybe with a removable washable cover - he is sick a lot (just like his sister was) so that sounds about right.

Just been reading this so I guess a new mattress is a must really - especially if they are as cheap as £25 - the ones I was looking at were £90+ but I think I have been looking at the wrong things!

Thanks,
worto.

Ewww. I was thinking more along the cot bed mattress lines but i didn't know that about the foam ones!

would re think should number 2 arrive! I think cot bed mattresses should be fine (mine has a protective waterproof liner that removes and machine washes!)

I was also going to suggest TKMaxx, saw one in there last week which was £40, very similar to one I got for my 1st 4 years ago which cost £120.00 at the time, so may be worth checking local store!

toysrus do a few different ones. one below is a basic foam mattress with plastic removable washable cover (ideal for sicky babies.

also if you find baby is sick at night have you tried rolling up a towel and putting it under the head end of the mattress to sleep baby at an angle (only very slight angle so couple of cm higher at one end) we tried that with ours and helped no end coz milk seems to stay put with help from gravity.
