Anyone know where I can get car insurance to cover me for 1 day (under 21)

Hi

I need to get insurance for a courtesy car for when my car goes into the dealers, I'm 20 and have been driving for 3 years but I can't seem to find any insurance companies that will insure anybody on short term cover if you are under 21. Seems a bit stupid when I'm driving a 130bhp 57reg and I cant get insured on a 1.2 petrol courtesy car!

Any help?

Thanks, just had a quick look and it seems you have to be over 21 for Norwich Union short term cover aswel.

Dont think I'm going to be able to get anywhere with this, quite annoying though :x

Own insurance wouldnt do it they said they can only offer short term cover to over 21's

Ring em....

They will cover you, they'll just switch policies for 24 hours....

that rule prob applies to people who arent already with them

Contact your insurance company and also who you are getting the courtesy car from as they usually have their own insurance. I recently had to have a courtesy car for 2 weeks and didn't have to get any separate insurance, you might either be already covered on your own insurance or with the courtesy car company so worth asking, I've never heard of anyone having to take out separate insurance before but hey, I could be wrong.

Whenever my car goes in for a service etc at the dealers then i'm covered on their insurance policy for the courtesy car for the day.

when i bought a new car i transferred my existing policy to it and paid an administration charge could you not do something like this and then transfer the policy back again when you get your car back?

that's what i was thinking :) if you have fully comp insurance you should be able to drive the courtesy car if it is covered by the dealers insurance

It's a Fiat dealer and although I have fully comp insurance they told me that they cannot cover me as I am under 21. I'm going to give my own insurance another ring at lunch time see if they can sort something but I cant switch the policy for 24hrs as i still need my own car to be insured on the day I get the courtesy car.

Oops, sorry. Forgot you are under 21.

Dealers won't cover Under 21's due to the high risk and the same with insurance companies on a short term basis. You're best bet is to try and find a under 21 specialist insurer. :)

Ask the dealers to let you have a courtesy car of the same group rating (or less) as your current vehicle, then ask your own current insurers to cover it as a temporary additional vehicle.

If your fully comp you should be covered for a courtesy car. I know I am.
Why not just take the day off so you don't have to do anything or go anywhere? Might be less hassle and less money.
