would one made cheaply be enforceable at all?....

Note it is very easy to write a will that is not valid on your death so make sure you do it carefully.

If a will is not filled out properly it can be invalid and no use whatsover.

Some solicitors offer a deal to make a will for a fairly low price, have a look in your local paper, or maybe ask at your local library.

This may help, see the section "Have your Will prepared"

In all honesty (and I am going to sound like a biased lawyer here...) you should consider making a will with a solicitor. It really isnt as expensive as you think it is going to be and there is less chance of something going so wrong. A will is VERY important and even more so if you have children.

I give this advice to everyone, even my friends who are not so well off. You wouldnt (or if you, you shouldnt!!!!)rewire your house if you are not an electrician...

If you need any further advice just give me a shout love.

Most solicitors will allow you to update the will for free and they will store it. You will need to make a note somewhere in your house to indicate where the will is.

It can be, yes. As long as it covers everything needed for winding the estate up then there shouldnt be a problem. There are PLENTY of errors that people make with homemade wills that really cause problems after their death and prolong the winding up and sometimes you have to go against the decision of the deceased as what they are trying to convey in their will is either ambiguous or completely incorrect.

There is a week in the year called "Make A Will Week" or something along those lines where some solicitors offer a cheap will and some even do it for free. I think the government subsidise it as it helps them on winding up the estate etc.

Not sure though whether this still runs. I dont do Wills & Succession I am afraid otherwise I would help you with the intricacies.

I was going to mention this, we did wills recently and the money all went to the hospice that my grandad went to before he died.

We got wills done (which we have been meaning to do for a while) and they got a donation.

We gave the amount that it would of cost anyway (as we werent doing it through this to try and save money) but you can give whatever you want, and its put in a sealed envelope so the person doing the will doesnt know how much you have given

If you have any charity you support then its worth contacting them and seeing if they have something like this coming up, our local hospice had a month were they did this and it was separate to the Will aid make a will month which is november

good idea to get one made with a solicitor. We had a joint will done about 2 months ago and so glad we have. Some of the questions asked we had never considered, like who would be guardians of our children should anything happen? Where would our estate go if we all died together?
bets to get one made for your own peace of mind.

one thing you need to consider is the solicitor you use, are they well know ? long term in your area.
My hubby's nan made one and she died a year ago last july, it took 8 months for probate which after seeking advice from our own solicitor it should take no longer then 4/6 months as my hubby and his sister were the main benifactors and there was a property to sell.
so 13 months down the line the house has finally been sold but again nans solicitor is stalling again

...it does actually involve hell of alot of work to wind up an estate. Please do not think I am being insensitive but contrary to popular belief the work that a solicitor does cannot usually be performed by the general public and when a solicitor doesnt just have "your file" it can obviously cause delays.

If only we were allowed to self promote...I would give you all an unbeatable rate!
