Do you get full 50mb download speed using Astraweb Usenet Access ?

Do you have to use 20 connections to max out your 50mb line ?

Thanks

Not on VM but BT use the Astraweb servers and each connection is 60k. Don't know if that's a BT thing though?

Well obviously the max connection is going to be your internet speed until you reach astrawebs server limit, I don't know what that is per a connection tho? which was what i was wondering?

cant you just set your newsbin client to only do one connection, then see how fast it gets to?

That's what I did to get the 60k figure. I also have another news account that goes through AW and that only gets 60k per connection as well. I would be interested to know the answer.

As an aside, I thought VM was outsourced to AW as well? Just wondering as you mentioned 7 day retention but on BT i'm getting stuff over 6 months old.

Hmmm, thats not good.

I've just signed up with astraweb after using usenetserver.com for about 8 years.

First impression - its half the speed of usenetserver on my 16.5Mb line - even with 20 connections. (My DL speed with Usenetserver was 1400KB, but so far the peak with Astraweb has been 600KB)

Unless it improves, it'll be my first and last month.

what does 7 day retention mean?

So theoretically my speed is better, although it's obviously not as I can only use 3 connections. That gives 160-180k on a 2mb connection. Not too sad for a 'free' service (news.btopenworld.com). BT actually getting something sort of right? Shocking

On the flipside though BT have starting throttling torrents from 9am-midnight. 5k/s seriously not happy about that:x
