Hey all,

My husband and I are having IVF treatment to have a baby. I've been given a date to go in for the treatment, which, would you believe, is the date of our wedding anniversary, and also the date we met :)

I think this is an omen, lol, but don't want to get my hopes up too high :)

Has anyone on here had it done, or know anyone who has? I don't know much about it yet, and have to go for my initial chat with our consultant in a few weeks time.

Any advice appreciated :)

Thanks,

I would never go down that route. But i read a book xmas 2006 called "fit for fertlity" by michael dooley. We'd spent 10 years trying . Suffered over a dozen miscarriages. We followed some of the herbal recommendations from the book and by march 2007 i was pregnant and on january 1st last year i had my beautiful boy.

After me nagging my OH cousin's gf to get the book she too is now 14 weeks pregnant and has beentrying for many years and thought she may have to have IVF as even taking 3/4 clomid a day her levels registered very low. That they didnt think she ovulated. Now she says reading the book gave her renewed hope and help put things into perspective and explained things to her better than at the clinic. But she too sayhs the book defo helped.

Yea, I've had the clomid, and IUI, but was unsuccessful. Not had any reasons, though - the docs say both me and husband are fine. I'll try get that book :)

Did you have the boys all at once, wulshaz, or did you have IVF a few times?

took me a lifetime to actually fall pregnant and stay pregnant because i had a few miscarriages along the way, eventually to be told i would never have kiddies of my own so asked about getting help and was refused point blank. it's a hard journey to go on but so worth it in the end ~ look at me i now have two gorgeous boys that came along naturally.
i also have friends and family who have gone along for ivf and fell pregnant all by themselves sometimes your body just needs to relax and forget about the pressure of making babies and hey presto it happens.
good luck whatever happens along your journey

not myself but have had virtual friends that did whilst on a TTC thread on a pregnancy board.... one person conceived and had twins two others got nowhere....i dont know what happened in the end as i left the board as i was blessed to have finally conveived my son.....but that says it all...its a long tough hard and very very emotional road...but im sure the fact u have been TTC for four years have been draining. good luck with it all hun...i wish u all the best and will say a lil prayer for u x

I actually have a friend who brother and wife are expecting twins, they about half way now and she conceived 1st time after their 1st session, guess they implanted at least 2 and 2 took.
Some people are successful with it and not others, for some its quick process and some wait many years.

defo agreed....spent 13months TTC with DS2....super stressed..one cycle where i thought we had not got it timed as we were ill...managed to concieve as was more chilled out....however saying relax, is easier said then done!!!

they were all 4 years apart and the last one was concieved on my last try we couldnt believe it! i turned 30 also so i knew we couldnt do anymore they had told us because of our age, but i think it depends on your funding for that area i was told at the time anyway dont know if it has changed as my youngest is only 7, but it is very emotionally nerve ending!

Best advice i can give is dont let trying for baby consume you. I know its hard but be grateful for what you do have and plan your future w./out kids. We'd given up i was studying accountancy and so our son was a wonderful surprise.

But now we found we put so much time and energy into getting pregnant defintely the 1st year was so hard as we both needed a holiday from it IYSWIM. Bringing up kids will always have its highs and lows but the first year is really hard especially if like me you only got your in laws for support.

I know money maybe tight but even if its just weekends a way make sure you 2 are treating yourself now before your lil angel comes into your lives.

I wish you all the luck in the world and hope it works for you. A work friend tried a few times but with no joy. They adopted a little boy last year and are very happy now.

aw good luck and keep us all updated x x x x x

Some really good advice there from everyone :)

My husband tells me all the time to stop thinking about it and it will happen, etc. and I do try, but there is always the thought in the back of my mind. I feel like I'm getting too old now (I'm 32 in October), and worrying about this probably doesn't help...

Thanks all for your good luck wishes... :)

i was actually attending infertility clinic and was told i was on my last appointment by the consultant,
how shocked was he when i attended my first antenatal appointment!
how shocked were we when we were told it was twins!!!!!
i had my two boys alfie and austin at 26 weeks which was extremely premature and we lost our precious austin after one week of life, alfie however has thrived and we also now have harry who was a complete surprise.
moral of my story i think is take what comes, what will be will be and you don't decide your fate someone else does
lol

wish you all the best ,maybe its a good omen calling you in on your wedding anniversary:thumbsup:

Same age as me hun im 32 july. Also funny thing was, ive always wanted to adopt . Because if i can give 1 child a loving home , thats 1 less child thats a burden on an over stretched system.
OH had agreed if no baby by time i was 30 ( i conceived the march b4 my july 30th bday) we see about fostering with a view to adoption in a few years..

I think if we've no joy with the IVF we will be looking at fostering / adoption

I just wanted to say good luck! As it's said above, it's often when you stop trying that you actually fall pregnant! There's a great forum on www.babyexpert.com and there's always women who are going through or have been through the same thing as you. I wouldn't class 32 as getting too old either, some of the new mum to bes are about 39 and still not classed as too old! I really wish you lots of luck in the direction you take xxx

cool set yourself a time frame then hun it helps. Because then instead of thinking if ivf fails its the end of the world you start thinking positively. Que sera sera.

That maybe you werent meant to be a mum to 1 or 2 but to a dozen children to be that shining light that keeps that from choosing the wrong way in life. Sometimes a good person just touching someones life for the briefest of time can change their whole life.

So you move forward to the next chapter rather than closing the book
#38
Best of luck from me too!

I have two lots of enighbours who both had ivf the same year and both had twin boys and then a boy each a few years later.

Good Luck hun xxx

Good luck hun.
We've been trying for 7 years as I have PCOS.
IVF isn't really an option for us as they have said that there is less than a 5% chance of it working for me and if I did actually conceive then there's a 70% chance that I'd miscarry. I'm not really up for the emotional rollercoaster with those odds.

That book might be worth a go though DIVA, thanks hun, I'm going to go have a look for it now :)
