Anyone out there want to help me with this psp slim replacement problem? - Problem solved.

Well, to cut a long story short, my psp memory card reader has failed on me. Im within my warrenty so I called up Sony. Replacement service coming on Wednesday. Thing is, the psp slim is still on Custom Firmware. I know Sony don't like this sort of stuff, so i'm asking if there would be any problems, or, better, know how to revert back to normal mode without the pro duo?

Edit: got it replaced, but another problem arises...

i would update it incase when they are repairing it and see the custom firmware they may just send it back although thats a wild guess.
#2
yeah I would wanna update, but without the reader in the psp, that is probably litterally impossible, unless there is a way how.

oh yeh i forgot about that lmao. Um theres one other way getting a pandora and doing it. Oh yeh i forgot the memory card reader lol.

Just take the risk but dont leave no trails.

thanks for the advice. I've turned most things as it should behave as an original. The only few ways of checking for hidden firmware is as follows:
1) go to system info to check (no way to change it)
2) hold R to enter recovery mode.

Bit too obvious on 1), but here is where god comes in :D

Also need a memory pro duo to save on im afraid. As for umd, there arn't many that have higher updates inbuilt into them anymore (talking v4.01) and most look for 3.something.

It may be a stupid point again;

Can you not copy the new firmware to the PSP via USB and update it somewhere from there

The PSP has 4MB of internal memory I believe

Edit - google tells me it is 23MB

Tried to do something like that -
it wont do it :( it only accepts stuff from the reader. Unless there's a guide out there that teaches you.

when a psp goes back to be repaired it goes to a different centre from the one who takes the call so as far as i know tey have no way of knowing what was on the psp :)

nnniiiiicccceee. Better if they can't trace where it came from.
I hope they do immediate exchange as I hear from the forums as well since this is likely. I definately do have the receipt and all, so the firmware problem is my only hurdle.

Forgot to say: rep left!

my friend got one exchanged and it had cfw on it and he never heard from them so think you'd be ok

the parcelforce man hasn't come yet (should be here today). Is he usually about this time?
#15
another call, and parcelforce man came today, but the silver ring at the back of the psp slim is not silver, but limey green?!
However, to compensate for that, the man gave me back the battery to keep :S. Now I can go to dealextreme and buy a replacement ring or just leave it. Anyone else in that situation before?

You peel of the sticker, its not green?

OHHH II SSEEEE :-D:-D:-D

So thats why its limey green. I was peeling it since but I guess I never used enough pressure. I can see the silver bit now. Problem solved . Would rep you, but need to spread more rep before coming back to you again. So all I can say is thanks!
