Anyone still hating the new website format?

Now everything has calmed down a little bit I was wondering whether there are still any readers of the site that are still silently seething about the new format and design of the site.

I have to say that I am just gliding through the site every day with ease; I can't remember how the old site looked now.

If I am honest I still preferred the old layout - The search functionality was far better for one.
#2
hehe, second that - really cant remember what it used to look like (and I didn't like this format at first)
#3
The previous was much better and easier to use, any website which has instructions on how to use is a failure period, no arguement. The whole point of a website is for it to have intuitive visuals and guidance via its design and arrangement, this new version does none of that, mostly its hardwork.

This thread should be in "Feedback".

Not if its peer to peer discussion since this is not directly for feedback, know your context ffs.

I defintely prefer the previous one!!!

For me, this one is better, by a long shot.

I remember the old one and still prefer the old one. I can navigate this site with ease, but then i have spent enough time on here to know this, as already said any site that needs instructions on all the basics really isnt a good start, 3 months later and no i still dont like the layout and prefer the old
#10
i cant stand using the site anymore - the only interface was just so much more usable.
#11
i still really like the new site design
#12
That there are still a couple of niggles with the new site is true enough, but when you compare that to the downtime of the previous site then the new one wins for me.In lots of ways I find it much easier and clearer than the old.

I likened the old site to a pair of comfy slippers when the changes happened....I am finding these new slippers are wearing in quite nicely!:)

i think the old one has a far superior functionality for this type of site, its a little poor but im used to it and "accept it" it wudnt be too difficult though to implement both designs and give the user the option its only a "style"....
#14
I liked the other one but i think that still sticks in mind ease of use. BUT i do like this one and there still a few things im not keen on but will get used to them
#15
I've actually found myself prefering the navigation on this site lately, but it has taken 3 months to get to that stage. As Sassie says, that's not good.

However there are things that still need improving that would make things a whole lot easier, especially the search facility.

I really don't have a problem with the search facility. Once you realise that the tabs at the top affect your output (e.g. if you have expired turned on or off), and single word searches are best, it works fine.

If you want to use multiple words, just put a + sign and a space in between words in this format:

"+game +Xbox"

Thats kind of the point really, a complete lack of intuitive design, so much so that you have a guide on how to search. I Don't think Google has ever had this problem.

Even google has tips on how to get better results from your searching.... do you think everyone knows that on google you encase a phrase in inverted commas when you want that exact phrase.... ?

From sublime to the ridiculous, the everyday bod just types what they want and Google pretty much brings back what they want every time if it didn't then it wouldn't be so popular now would it?

That is how simplistic it is to use and you can't argue with that, but the search function here doesn't quite match up to that standard of simplicity.

I like the new site, I like tabbed browsing, perhaps because I didn't use the old site for all that long I got used to the new one quicker, emma is right about the search facility one word searches are best, and advanced works pretty well....I compare this to MSE which I find a nightmare (as does my missus)...so big thumbs and smiles from me.
#21
i prefer the new over the old, much easier to navigate, nicer to look at, i like the search (finds what i needs :) )

Thanks Emma. :) I actually know all the tips in your sig, but appreciate you helping.

Just a couple problems I have with it off the top of my head. For a start, I can't search for strings of two characters, which for someone with an interest in PCs and PC Gaming is frustrating to say the least. ;-) Given that there are lots of other popular two letter acronyms in common usage and also single and double digits (e.g. TV, DS, OS X, MS, etc.) this can make searching for certain things next to impossible.

When looking for someone else's posts, if you use the main search engine it will often come up with erroneous results and there is no ability to find the actual posts themselves, just the thread they are in. And if you use the "Find more posts" option from their Profile page or the link under the Avatar, there is no option to list by date order. So, if it is someone who posts a lot in say the "Word Association Game" thread, you can find yourself having to trawl through page after page of results just to get to something that might have been posted 10 minutes ago (that's an extreme example but even for people who don't post hundreds of times in one thread it can make searching for a post harder).

Liken the search facility to making love.

Anyone can do it, but by learning and researching, you will achieve better results. :)

So that's why I always get my results in a matter of seconds and am left feeling unsatisfied?
#26
i think i got used to it

Like the new site, there are a few things that were better on the old site - first and foremost the layout of view post by member, but overall look forward to seeing the real benefits of the new "more versatile" code base - there have been some good suggestions in the feedback forum on what to do in the area on the RHS of the page - any chance of an update?

I guess the only solution to please everyone would be to allow customisable skins, then someone would undoubtedly create one which very much looked like the old site...

My only complaint when the new site was launched was the colours. Still think they could be warmer for "hot" UK deals! I don't like the white. Other than that, I'm used to it now and finding it easy to navigate

I agree with Liddle ol' me on this one (that'll probably surprise him!)

Perfer old site still but got use to this one , at first never thought i would use site again as really hated the new changes.
#32
I hate this new site.

So much so that I have gone from using and browsing it everyday to once in a blue moon now.

It's HORRIBLE. Seriously.

I am sure there are many others who feel the same and have gotten lost (and won't post in a thread like this) - indeed, I only fell across this thread by accident and felt compelled to post. I am sure most others who don't like it wouldn't bother (if they stil use the site).
#33
I heart HUKD ~ (the old site - clicky)

This one looks better for sure, but I still think the older one was a better layout.
#34
I liked the old, and I like the new! It does what its supposed to, so thats all that matters to me :)

Yeah, there are still problems, I believe the programmer is working through a list, and some things get updated overnight without people even realising.

As an answer to the 2 letter search problem - I doubt this will ever change - we didn't even have a 3 letter search on the old site - 4 was the minimum!

My solution to that is to search for words associated with the 2 letter search. E.g. the other day I was looking for a cheap SD card, so I searched for all threads with "card" in the title, in the deals forum only. I then used "ctrl+F" on my keyboard to fly through the most recent deals.
#36
I used to hate it, but it's grown on me.

I've got used to it.
#37
This is OK but prefer the old one.

Yep, and the changes are much appreciated too. :)

I think you used to be able to use the '*' trick though didn't you?

Yeah, I try to do that where possible, but it's not always that easy. Ah well, thanks for the suggestions. :)
#39
I do still prefer the old site but, now 3 months on have got used to this new one.
#40
i've got used to it already, not bothering me any more, even started to like it :)
