  I've been there many times and agree this sort of incident is always happening but this looks far worse than anything I've seen before.
  Friends who live there are also very worried!

  The current trouble only 'looks worse' because we are living in a media age when everything is recorded. Go back to the riots of the early 90s or before when there was a lot more bloodshed. Several students / protesters were killed but there was hardly any press coverage.
