I have just downloaded it, I am after putting films off a dvd onto an external harddrive.
I have so called saved the files into MKV but it doesnt say what to do next? or where it is saved :(

I am at the moment feeling like throwing the whole thing through the window. I just want to put films onto a HD didnt think it would be so much hard work!!

All seems too much, Think I may just take back HD or sell it!! Had enough of trying things and getting no where lol

if you just want to put ISO of films on hard drive just rip them to hard drive using dvddecrypter or DVDFab HD Decrypter then get daemon tools to mount them in windows and play them as if there were physical disc's.. or just open disc image in dvd shrink and then switfch to re-author, drag title 1 across you could play them that way in preview mode (but in full screen on PC)

Perhaps your files are too large, if your HD is formatted to FAT32 - it will only take a max of 4gb file size.

moob I just rebooted my PC with the HD attatched and yes it said something about FAT32, how do I get rid of that? as I bought a 500gb one to put loads of films on for him.

Thank you both for trying to help me out :)

I also have a question for people who use makeMKV.

I have successfully transferred loads of DVDs to MKV and when i play them through my WDTV i have an issue. If i fast forward (not a chapter at a time, just like 2x, 4x etc) as soon as i press play it starts at the beginning of the file again.

Can't seem to find anyone having similar issues anywhere!!

you can format it through Windows by right clicking on it [eg on the drive in my computer the one you know is the usb one]and choose format then select NTFS and tick Quick box (this will erase all files on HD)

this one, misinformation though stating it's wireless. You have to buy the samsung wireless dongle.

like some divx and xvid and various codec movies/clips available for download on the internet/ etc some are out of spec and not universally playable on all equipment. Maybe the mkv files you are getting from the internet are the same .. have you used the program beth first asked about. It was the first I had heard of it today so I have no idea if it's any good

http://fsinapsi.altervista.org/code/avinaptic/index.html full fixed zip codec tool to show audio in mkv as gspot don't work

or http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

Don't have one of those tv's not really messed around with blu ray and mkv only own 2 or 3 blu ray movies.. Don't like they way they move.

Copied night at the museum onto bd-re a while ago to play on ps3 with ImgBurn to see if it worked

cheers that mkvmerge is letting me convert a DVD to mkv and shows that the mkv from earlier is using DTS so needs converting to basic stereo.

why even bother with MKV files? Most external devices cant play them!

Stick with AVI for far less hassle.

There's no quality difference between container formats.

Quality wise yeah

Yeah but The majority of internet believes there is a difference

* supports H.264/AVC
* B-Frame support
* supports variable audio bitrate
* supports chapters, muxed subtitles, metadata/tags and dvd-like menus
