Anyone used a lounge at Gatwick Airport?

Might be flying from Gatwick in the near future and was just looking online at the lounge prices....one says £29 for 2 people and includes;
"Comfortable seating. Television with Sky TV. Complimentary soft and alcoholic drinks (additional charge for Champagne). Enjoy wider selection of snacks including crisps, nuts, cakes and hot soups".
Just think this is slightly odd.....£14.50 pp to have complimentary soft AND alcoholic drinks and (hopefully) less crowded seating areas seems a fab idea for me during the 2-3 hour wait.....
Just think it seems too good to be true and wondered if anyone had any experience of it.....rep for little helpers as always

Gatwick is my fav airport :)

You dont need the luxury lounge. 2 hrs wait isnt long at all as the planes are called to board early anyway and you'll just have time to look round the shops or grab a drink or a magazine and you'll be boarding xx

Airport lounges arent really my thing lol......and just thought (for the v cheap price) it could be an alternative if the 'normal' area is busy. I have emailed them anyways as the dress code is smart/casual and I know Ill be travelling in jeans lol I just think that I could EASILY drink £14 worth in a couple of hours (obviously without getting drunk). Seems a bargain as I expected the lounges to be about £50pp lol

also I thought flights to america had a 3 hour wait time.....prob remembering wrong, been a while since I went there :)

Just dont get there too early and if you do, stroll around the shops. They already make enough money without giving them "tips".

are there many shops there? Im a pretty nervous flyer and hate the HUGE windows in airports, seems the airport likes to tease me lol.....shops would help :p

does anyone agree with me that it seems a good offer or is everyone in the 'save your money and stay in the 'normal' area camp :? even just for the free drinks? I cant get my head round them giving free alcohol :?

hmmm....but I would happily pay £15 for a seat, lack of screaming kids and some snacks....so the drinks would be my freebie (in my head :p)

lmao I wrote the above before reading this :p wont delete though cos I know you wont be offended...its just that when Im stressing over flying (GOD KNOWS how many hours it will be) I would rather not also have a headache caused by a kid lol

I think Ill wait for the reply (re: the dress code) and wait to book the flights...then see how tempted I am.....Time might have something to do with it also....early morning I wont be drinking anything.....dinnertime/afternoon might be another story :p

been to gatwick 6 times in the past 2 years, not once did i think it was overly busy tbh, and never had an issue with finding a seat...plenty of them around, in fact i'd probably be bored stuck in a room for a few hours

I spent 7 hours in Melbourne Airport, 6hrs in Vegas airport, and 5-6 hours in New York airport and had no problems, just settled down with my laptop and a film. I think you're been really fussy, especially for realistically what will only be an hour or 2 max.

Its just personally I get a bit anxious when theres nothing to do.....and the smallest things stress me out more. I thought perhaps the lounges would help and as I have never flown from Gatwick before may have been the better option. I spent 5 hours in an airport in greece where there was one excuse for a shop and about 100 seats....this in addition to my dislike of flying really did get to me and was a far from enjoyable experience, hence why I dont think £15 is much to spend in the hope of a better departure :) obviously hearing peoples accounds of Gatwick is making me question if I will even make it past the shops to the lounge at all lol

I like airport lounges as you normally get free drinks, free snacks, free wifi, air conditioning (great when it's stinking hot in summer), peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of it all, and it just starts and finishes my hoilday nicely, so in my opinion, yes £14.40 is worth it.
If however you are planning on doing lots of duty free shopping or arriving 45 minutes before your flight departs it probably isn't worth it.

Free drink - or drinks? Hmmm maybe not... More than 2 and they'll say you're unfit to fly!

Yes, there are loads of shops on both sides of passport control.

I used to fly to Germany from Stansted every week for two years when I was working.
Got to use the KLM / ANA lounge for free as became a "frequent flier" pretty rapidly.
It was superb, so relaxing and they had very nice Japanese girls that would wait on you hand and foot.Everything was free and nothing was too much trouble.
I used to get to the airport at least two hours before they said I should be there so that I could avail myself of the lovely alcohol.

Leeds Bradford is such an awesome airport, takes like 5 mins from check in to the gate.

hmmmm not from my experience :? it isnt usually bad up there....nothing to moan about as such but an average airport with a distinct lack of shops IMO :)

Hmmmm guess the only problem is they can literally know exactly how much you have drunk lol.....but I think a glass of wine, few nibbles and a film on the lappy in piece and quiet might be nice :) another problem been when I drink I tend to get a bit frisky lol  could be a prob on a long flight!

So you would recommend it then.......hmmmmm seems the general concensus is I dont need it, but if I want it, its pretty good?

We're talking Stansted here. Out in the sticks.
They used to have to cut the grass three times a week in the summer so the planes could take off.:w00t:

Lol, I remember when Bournemouth airport had one check in desk, no shop or boarding gate just a holding room and the person who checked you in was the air hostess on board the plane. This was only a few years ago, but changed a bit now Flybe are there, I think they now have 3 check in desks.

OP, go to the lounge - treat yourself and get stuck into the drinks so you don't feel so guilty.

lol you reminded me.....I flew back from Cyprus a couple of months ago and the same girl checked our bags in, checked us through to departures, checked us into the boarding area thing AND came with us on the coach thing and told us where to sit on the plane.....dont think she actually came on the flight but made me laugh :giggle:

I think I will see how I feel.....Think I may have been more suprised at the price of the lounges, and therefore more tempted lol

everyone has been repped btw :)

Are you flying from North or South? If its a busy day it can take ages getting through security, last week at North it was fine but in Sept I almost missed my flight it took so long. You dont really need the lounge as there's plenty of shops, bars, eateries and not too many large picture windows! I used to fly BMI from Heathrow and the lounge was a nice extra but I wouldn't think it is worth paying for and you won't be hanging around long enough to drink £14.50 worth of alcohol.

A waste of money unless you turn up 6+ hours before departure as you'll never get a chance to get to the lounge!

Gatwick is a nightmare now as it can take a good half hour to get checked in (easyjet last summer took 90 minutes) and then another hour sometimes to get through security.

Of course, those who turn up within 2 hours of their flights get rushed to the front of the check-in desks and then ushered to the front of security.

A lot of people have cottoned on to this so if you get there with plenty of time, you'll see people who turn up 1-2 hours after you actually beat you through security!

I'm just gonna turn up 90 mins before departure next time I fly.
