Anyone used CEX for selling a phone (iphone in particular)?

I was just wondering if anyone has used CEX for selling a mobile phone, iphone in particular.
I have a couple of questions - any idea how their grading is. I have some minor scuff marks on the bezel and back but no scratches, and the screen is perfect.
I have the box and instructions.
Only thing is the battery life is poor, but will they check that out in store?
Is it worth phoning them and asking before making a special trip?
Am I better off going for cash or the voucher and then selling it on?

I'm weighing up if I can get £160 for it at CEX or whether I should save the hassle and get £136 cash for mobile reycling or I'm wondering if the best option is £150 Tesco voucher and 200 clubcard points.

Any advice for CEX and how easy it is to sell your phone there?

They class grade a as pretty much brand new so you're most likely to get grade b.

Do you know if they check the battery? That's my concern, I know it's not what it used to be.

Not to sure about that, sorry.I don't think they would bother, they just check the condition and test to see if it works.Just charge it to full battery and you should be fine.

Thanks. I will phone them in the next couple of days, see what they say. Got to go to a different town and don't want a wasted trip.

Won't be mint, has some minor marks where a grain of sand got under the silicone cover and I didn't know about it for a few days so has some small scuff marks.
I didn't even have a nice time at the beach, was there for 5 mins max :(

With any luck, you'll get a B grade. I think A needs to be "as new", so the scuffs on the back will cause you to lose out on that.

Having said that, I've been offered a C grade price for a phone which was most definitely a B. CeX sucks but they're about the only place that'll buy phones on the high street.

Have you checked the phone phone recycling sites (fonebank, mazuma, etc)?

Yes I had it done to me at CEX in Wakefield on an iPhone. It was back in the days when o2 decided to sell them off at £169. I used it for a week and got a thin, not deep scratch down the screen to the left, 1cm in length and was given grade B, the rest immaculate. I went in to trade another - this time brand new iPhone and my old one was there at grade A.

With recycling I can get £136 cash or £150 Tesco gift card + 200 tesco cc points.
CEX online only shows prices for mint/good/poor. Good gets £160 cash or £231 voucher.
Just weighing up what is the best option...well I know from what I see online it's CEX but if I get there and they offer less than this it'll be a wasted journey, annoying, and a waste of time, energy, petrol and parking. But I would prefer cash and it's the most generous.
It's good to hear people's experiences and thanks for all the help so far, I appreciate it.

I have heard that sometimes they say they don't have cash or something rubbish like that and only give out store credit?

OK, all decided, definitely taking it to CEX next week, need the pennies.
Thanks for all your help, I think I'll get a 'good' so worth the trip...or actually sending my friend to go for me probably as they just said they would which is kind.

you could call them and explain the condition and ask for a preliminary quote

Shocking, at the end of the day they don't end up with any incentive as employees for doing this (or do they?).

But they have us by the jaffas as nowhere else does trade in on the high street.

hey ss. yeah its true some stores will deny they have cash (they set out a limit each day for purchases from customers) and will only offer store credit. so get there when the store opens.

i know quite a lot about cex so if you want anymore help PM me.

I don't think they get anything other than I suppose pride in doing their job to the letter of the law. I consider Wakefield to be strict, which is good overall as I don't mind going and getting store credit - barring the issue of the iPhone. However Leeds don't care, took hard drives off me and USB sticks and never tested them or anything which I thought was poor practice from a buyers perspective.

Hmm... Glad you told me that as I have been into the Leeds CeX many a time to check on hard drive and usb prices, thank god I never took the jump!

I don't know if the new one near me checks, I better ask one of them XD

Do not trust these people, I took a mint condition iPhone 4s to gravesend store and they ruined the wifi and it will not work now. And they pay well under what the goods are worth, rip off merchants stay away.
