I'd make sure that you can operate your iPod through the controls of your head unit so you don't have to fiddle with your iPod while you're driving.

Heres a basic starting point

I've got a box of tricks like this: http://www.connects2.com/c2search.aspx?catID=27 which I got with a headunit I bought off ebay. Absolute doddle to fit, it just plugs in to the CD-changer socket on the my headunit. All functions of the ipod are controllable via the headunit, only limitation of mine is that it you have to use playlists to organise your music into albums / artists. charges the ipod too, can't fault it at all.

i would like to know too, i need to know if there is a way to do this via the aux out socket, it think thats what its called where a cd changer would be plugged into! Or to make the unit capable of doing bluetooth!

tbh it works out the same , pressing the buttons on the ipod or pressing them on the head unit:?

If you wana connect it to a new system, make sure it has an aux in.

Or alternatively you can get an alpine system but they cost a few houndred and have ipod cables built in along with other connectors, and this way you can browse through your ipod using the headunit.

Depends entirely on what head unit you already have.

I have a Clio and use a connects2 unit like chrishill. Simply fits behind the head unit, two wires (one for the hu, one for the ipod), simple as hell to fit. Also works with my steeringwheel controls too.

I stuck a FM transmitter in behind the radio and solderd the power cord to the cig lighter wire.
ran the cable up behind the dash and into the top glove box thing---------- \/ there

The cassette adaptor is the best thing ever! I bought mine from pound land and its really great. Only bad thing is the long wire but cant really complain.

What kind of Toyota is it? Have you gone through the 'your car wizard' thing on their site?

http://www.connects2.com/c2wizard.aspx?manID=232

price wise, looks like about £60 depending on the car

try getting in touch with them, it may be that the post 2004 Rav4 shares a common connection with another Toyota or another make of car entirely, usually the standard headunits in cars are made by a brand-name anyway.

Anyone know if the iPod pulls power from the car battery when the car is not running & the stereo is off? Don't want to leave it plugged in overnight if I'm going to have a dead battery the next morning!

I wouldn't do it...........took me an hour to shove the thing in the CD drive. Wrecked my stereo and scratched my iPod. :w00t::thinking:
