right I want to upgrade my bad boy of a phone and the iphone looks pretty sweet. Does anyone know if there is an updated version coming out soon or if there are any other phones on the marked at a similar price which are just as good? Looking on the O2 website,

£35 a month
600 mins 500 texts
iPhone 8GB £96.89
iPhone 16GB - Black £155.62
iPhone 16GB - White £155.62

Anything better or similar out there?

.... ^ .... right...

anyway, I recommend it, if you can live without video making and picture messaging.

its often cheaper to buy it on PAYG and get an o2 simplicity contract!

"Apple iPhone - is it the greatest phone?" erm.. no.

If you read reviews you'll understand that while the phone good, it's not all it's hyped up to be and I think there are better phones out there.

tis all dependant on what you want the phone for.

I know plenty people here at work, who got one and really unimpressed becuase they can't feel popular by forwarding on they're joke messages.

technological ludites if you ask me

I had no reason to like the iphone, and tried really hard to hate it (being ex-windows mob ex-symbian)

However, if you can ignore the size, and the stupid missing stuff - sms forwarding, video recording, MMS on none o2 networks etc, its brilliant.

Is it the best? depends what you want for a phone, but it has the best user interface on a phone, and the app store has some genuinely useful apps.

Buy it

Sorry but to me those are quite basic and fundamental functions on a phone.

I really don't understand how a phone that can be so good in many ways, can miss things like those. Which is why... NO, it isn't the best phone...

Maybe Apple's next effort will finally get it right and people will have the best phone ever on their hands.

but all those functions are available via various apps (maybe not the mms on non o2 phones) but then again it was never intended to be used on anything other than O2.

I agree with you on SMS Forwarding - that should be built in. end of story.

Video recording would also be nice, but is available through third party apps.

MMS I couldn't care less about.

As for why they are missing.. US market. End of discussion.

jeez do you guys still not know the word jailbreak !!

I know what you're saying, but when you pay so much for a phone, I'd expect it to be offering sexual favours straight out of the box! lol

i have iphone 2g and getting my 3g tomorrow :)

I dont see any problems with it, Sms forwarding ? tbh why not just retype the message, takes very little time on the on screen keyboard on iphone.

Picture messaging isnt a problem as uploading your pics to your pc from phone is done very quickly and can then be sent around, Also the op wouldnt matter as they taking it out on 02. Im a vodafone user and i dont really mind, when you add in the great apps from appstore, the easy downloads from itunes, great wifi (had loads of probs with my old nokias wifi)

And all thats coming from a female iphone user :D

buy a cheap phone from tesco - £9.99 and a vibrator from ann summers, £25? best of both worlds for a fraction of the cost

 do you think I'd get banned if I submitted that as a deal, "alternative iphone package"?

i hate touchscreen keyboards as i text a lot, and thus i dislike the iPhone personally on that, otherwise its a lovely phone.
But i prefer to be able to feel keys and then type without looking as well, plus i like syncing with outlook for contacts/calender/sms/email/tasks thus why i stay on windows based phones.

oh one other thing is the poor battery life... just a warning but i have to charge mine at least once every day!

dont get me wrong i dont disagree, but if apple had launched the iphone with a 10 meg camera built in, and flash and text forwarding ,video cam ,mms and every other conceivable feature what do they upgrade it with ?

It's a good point, even if it does show the greed of these companies lol

why release a phone that can sing, dance and make you coffee when you can release 10 models of the phone leading up to that all singing all dancing model.. lol

Is iPhone the best phone? Well I think that depends a lot on personal preference. It's certainly the best touch screen interface by a country mile. But it isn't the most technically advanced phone if you're to sort who thinks the number of Megapixels has a bearing on a phones usefulness as a communication device.

As others have said there are a couple of things missing from it, Cut and Paste springs to mind. But whether or not that's an issue depends on if that bothers you or not.

The only thing on the immediate horizon that looks interesting competition wise is the HTC Magic on Voda: http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/coming-soon/mobile-phones. I'd certainly be avoiding Windows mobile phones like the plague, they just take too much messing around configuring and installing stuff before they're even remotely useful.

I basically want field runner which is a great little game I have played on it. Its the only game I've ever played which my sister is currently beating me at. Hence the need to buy one so I can get some practice in!

EDIT: thanks for the input guys. I'm not a fan of Apple so have tried really hard to not be really impressed, but the iPhone is a very impressive piece of kit. Its just I'm not sure whether the extra features are necessary considering I am currently using a Nokia 1100 (No joke!)

If you can wait until June there should be an announcement then.

Also, take a look at the Palm Pre which as some interesting features but is probably geared more towards the business market.

It's great if you like to carry a brick around

What, the 1100 or the iphone?

while it may be perceived as a 'brick' by many, persoanlly I love the size because I believe you get the most out of the features by having that size screen for the internet. Don't forget it's an ipod too, so a decent screen for watching movies (for a handheld device).

Apple have announced an upgrade (os3) to the sofware that will be a free download. Rumours are 3rd generation iphone will be released june/july

yes, yes it is the greatest phone if you jailbreak it. I cant think of any other phone better than it.
