Been looking at iPods for a while, and on the Apple site, if you buy an 8gb iPod it's £129 (free del), but if you go on the USA Apple site it's $199 (free del). So, surely with the exchange rate being as it is, it's a lot cheaper to buy direct from the US?!

I'm not being really sill and missing something here am i?!

Dont buy it from usa - you can pick it up for about £109 here for 8gb

I know it sounds silly, but the engraving thing on the back is quite attractive! And £100 for an 8gb is pretty decent too.

What would the income tax be? They aren't very heavy!

Think you'll find you can't ship from US to UK through Apple Store.

Import Tax is usually VAT so 17.5% then depending on courier they may charge a release cost from customs (UPS for example is £11)

$199 = £100

+ VAT = £117

+ Possible courier Customs release £11

= £127 No longer a bargain :(

"Income tax" has nothing to do with the weight. Its nothing to do with buying goods either!

When you buy stuff from outside the EU, you will be charged an import duty - which varies in rate depending on what the goods are. On top of that, you will have to pay Vat. Then if it comes via royal mail, you will also get stumped with a charge of about £8 from them for the service of collecting the duty.

In short, unless you are making a big saving, its best not to do. Particularly with electical goods - where you will want to be covered by a warrenty. Shipping costs won't be cheap - and they may refuse to send it back overseas!
