Apple Tablet Your Predictions??

So the big day is here - well if you care at all about Apple and the new perhaps worst kept secret tablet.

So what are your predictions, what's the score?

For starters I think it will be called: iTablet, run a form of iPhone OS, start at 32GB, have 3G connection (likely contract with all 4 iPhone carriers) have an aluminium back, black bezel front with a front facing camera, access to a new iTunes cloud service, and cost the earth! Probably £599 with contract and over £1000 without.

What's your guesses, just for fun?

I do hope its not iPad, sounds like a sanitary item to me! As for the price that would be nice.

Won't be more than £700 cos you can buy a MacBook in a tablet form already I think it was for around $1600.
#4
I'm excited, but preparing myself to be massively underwhelmed.

If it's a 10" tablet, it's competing in the netbook market, but knowing Apple, it'll be 3 times more expensive than the average netbook.

Storage is probably going to be a deal breaker for me too. I'd want at least 160gb, but get the feeling that Apple's tablet will be a 64gb flash or 128gb max.

And there are strong rumours that it'll be using the iphone OS rather than OS X, which isn't good either, in my opinion.

I'm sure it'll look good though.

I'm struggling to see the point too.

I already have 2 mobiles to stay in contact, listen to music etc.

I have a laptop to work on.

I'm not sure there's something in between that needs a tablet.
#6
I doubt I'll get it if it has the iPhone os.
#7
Dont really see the point of a tablet. It would be horrible to type on. To use it for any long period of time would just get annoying. I'll stick to my laptop.
#8
At the moment, you need another laptop/desktop in order to sync an iphone with music/photos etc.

So unless the new iphone OS is radically different, Apple's tablet is going to be a very expensive mobile gaming toy.

Apple are going to need this thing to do the same things as a laptop, and/or price it very very carefully.
#9
my prediction = it will look pretty and sell by the bucket loads no matter price or features *. did you see apples last quarters figures good god they really can shift some gear

Yeah, about 6;30 tonight here.

Don't see the point in the tablet will get the same idiotic apple followers who must have the 'new thing'. But can't see the point of the tablet when the iphone does what it does, and if you want to do anymore it really can't.

I missing something?

I can't understand how Apple have made so much money during the recent recession, given the prices they want to charge.

The Macbook Air, for example, is a ridiculous price considering its spec.

We'll get stuffed on price in this country too. Whatever they say the price is in the USA, add another couple of hundred dollars, then convert it to GBP.

I have to ask this for my Apple mad mate at work...

Is there going to be a webcast of the event ? And if there is where can he find it ?
#14
I think it will take a lot of 'new technology' in this iTablet to make it worth anything over a hackintoshed netbook (or indeed a netbook running any OS). You can get the best netbook for around £300 so unless the iTablet does something amazing with user interface and input, I should be out.

I won't be. I will still buy it. Just regret it.

Not everyone has been hit by the recession as hard as the media make out.

I've been fine.

n800,810 ftw. heck, nokia 770 ftw

I very much doubt this will be on contract!!! I can't wait for the announcement tonight, wish i was there.

Hopefully memory will be 80gb up i would think!

That's great. So have I, but I still wouldn't pay over £1k for a MacBook air with 120gb hdd, out of principle.

Still can't see the point in it. I have lots of smartphones, a Kindle and a Macbook Pro.

He's pitching it as the best web browsing experience - does it have Flash?

no flash

will still sell well of course
#26
So I kinda got it right, not the name, but got iPhone OS, starts madly low at 16GB, does have 3G connection but more expensive, NO CONTRACT thats fantastic and unlocked!!! No camera, no cloud service. The price is good in US not sure how that will equate here.

Video up of Jonathan Ive waxing lyrical!! Here is is: http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video
#27
Well I predicted that I'd be underwhelmed, and I was right.

Max storage of 64gb is not great. Iphone OS is ok but not great. It looks like you still need to have another laptop/desktop running itunes to be able to use it. So all in all, an expensive toy.

On the plus side, it's not as expensive as I thought it'd be, but you can bet that it'll be loads more expensive here than the equivalent US price.

It's a load of monkey crap. It seems they are trying to sell it as a kind of laptop. but with those rubbish specifications i think it's going to be over priced and overhyped. Like a lot of Apple's products
Would be ten times better just buying a normal high spec laptop.
#29
I don't really get what it's for.

And every time i look at it i think a midget is holding an i-phone.
#30
Nothing on the iPhone 4G? or have I missed it somewhere ?

I depends what you use a laptop for. I use my laptop (like now) whilst sat on the sofa with the TV on in the background. If I am doing more "power hungry" stuff such as my photography, 'll use my desktop.

My laptop really is just for internet use and it would be far easier for me to use something like an iPad.

Also, most people don't remember, but when the iPod launched, a large number of people thought it was stupid and there was better stuff out there on the market.

Here's one of the first comments on it immediately after Apple launched it:

Yeah it's probably not bad if you are only browsing a few basic websites.
But surely if you was aiming to do that you would buy a laptop that's about 4 times cheaper?

Could you justify the expense though? For something that essentially does what you have already, but harder (i.e typing)

Yes, but it looks massively easier to browse the internet using an iPad - and that's all I do on my laptop. Which at the moment is heavy and cumbersome.

It's easy to write it off as a silly fad, but look at every major product in the last 10 years. They haven't just succeeded, they have revolutionised the markets in which they operate.

The problem is the lack of multi-tasking and flash. Without that it seems kinda pointless.

The lack of flash isn't an issue at all. HTML 5 is quickly going to solve that problem and kill Flash dead.

Multi-tasking would be an issue if you intended to use it as a laptop, but it's not a laptop.

When Flash is dead then it may be worth it.

As for multi-tasking, clearly they are pitching it as something approaching a laptop because they've released a keyboard and iWork for it.

I just fail to see what problems it solves. If you have a laptop and a smartphone, then this is utterly pointless.

Why should it solve a problem? Surely a new product should create opportunities and new experiences.

The iPod didn't solve a problem. There were bigger, more powerful MP3 players on the market.

The iPhone didn't solve a problem. There were phones that did almost exactly the same thing, just in different ways.

I can understand why people are knocking it but as I said before, Apple are very good at creating demand where we don't think there is any. They've sold quarter of a billion mp3 players that most people thought wouldn't take off when they launched 9 years ago.

The iPod took the MP3 player and made it stylish and user-friendly.

The iPhone made internet on the go user-friendly and enjoyable.

The iPad.......

High sales doesn't mean it's a good product. otherwise the Nintendo Wii would be the best games console, and the Toyota Corolla would be the best car.
