Sounds like you didn't realise that it's basically a toy?

So is a crayon. But you could write an entire novel with it if you desired. Sounds like you're quite ignorant. The iPad is a brilliant productivity tool. iWork suite is the official Apple ones, that would be Pages, Numbers and Keynote apps for (Word/Excel/PPT). Documents To Go is another popular alternative across many devices. Office2 HD I use personally and Quickoffice mobile suite is available as well. MS might be porting Office to iOS as well, they started with a free OneNote app already. Dropbox is a brilliant way of downloading/uploading your documents and content. Awesome Note, 2Do, Logmein Ignition, Manage, Calendars, VNC, FTP and Penultimate are a few more I use aside from a plethora of games and media content. Buzz Player HD is ideal for xvid and x264 video playback, VLC player used to be awesome, then they updated it and started having lots of issues. If you want to stream from PC, grab VLC Streamer (different to VLC player). Streamer works swell as well as Air Video. Notable must-have games include Infinity Blade, Asphalt 6, FIFA 11, Dead Space HD and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD. Most people would rave on about Angry Birds, World of Goo, Cut the Rope and Plants vs Zombies, I'd prefer The Settlers HD. Just a few apps off the top of my head that should start you off nicely, in fact, keep your busy for quite a while! :)

I'd recommend Pages and QuickOffice then. Penultimate is pretty useful too.

An iPad can be used for office related tasks. It won't replace a laptop/desktop for such things, but can do basic word processing/spreadsheets/email etc etc. So a very useful toy.
