I had my 3GS replaced in November and it was still locked to O2, but you can call your local apple store who will be able to confirm

It's simple to unlock just run blackra1n, whilst the iphone is plugged in - unlock & jailbreak - done

Not since 3rd Feb mate, unfortunately that day, Apple saw fit to release 3.1.3 iphone firmware which Blackra1n cannot break at the mo'. So if you get a refurb try and get the Genius NOT to update the firmare b4 he gives it to you!

can always restore to original firware. Itunes - restore, then just upgrade to 3.0 again . Trouble is a couple of apps may not work on < 3.2 but nothing important during the wait im sure

And an O2 unlock is better than blackrain anyway.

Apart from being official, and working on the latest firmware, which it will be soon anyway its no different.

Yeah and the fact you can update straight away and keep your warranty.

You can keep your warranty if you uninstall blackra1n

took mine today apart from the genious being a knob and telling me its my sony dock which is doing all the damage which is rubbish, and asking me if i had a adapter i dont have a clue what he was going on about, also said that they are new handsets they give out now not refurbs, and he also said that they are unlocked which he was right about the handset is unlocked happy days

So can you confirm that your old handset was previously locked (which network?) and you recently had it replaced at an Apple store with an unlocked one?

Also, has anyone had a new contract or PAYG iPhone from carphone warehouse or phones 4 U and are they unlocked as well?

Thanks

Just got back from the Genius Bar appointment and they gave me a new phone. I had an O2 sim in and I asked if each phone was locked to a particular network and he said no other wise they would have too many phones to stock. He said it locks network to the first sim they insert to activate it, so I asked in theory could I give him my Voda sim and then it would be locked to Voda and he said yes, but as there was an O2 Sim in my old phone, he had to activate it with that sim.
