Don't know what they are like now for new parts as they went belly up.

Rubbish cars...Thats why they are cheap everywhere... Renault Clio / Corsa may be better for you and they are arount the grand mark for what you want...Good Luck

It was £1,500, a newish shaped one not the boxed shaped one and with the seat all the way back and steering wheel up i couldnt fit my legs under it.

Maybe i will stay away from the 25 then.

So confusing.

seriously? I only paid £750 for my 306 2 and a half years ago and only has 83000 on the clock now. Might be worth looking on ebay as they are going for under a grand on there for decent looking ones.

Rover 25 isn't too bad just dont let it even slightly overheat!

If you get a 306 get a pre 1998. Build quality on my 2001 is crap. Had a 1998 and it was far better.

if the rover is a diesel then the engine (L series) will be very reliable
#13
Would trying to get a astra be better then?

I need the MPG to be good.

very unreliable...i had a work mate who had one....she was late most of the time during winter as it seemed to have a mind of its own and cut off while driving, not starting, and other major electical faults.

Peugot 306 or Honda civic
Renault clio's bonnets fly open when you hit over 65mph on the motorway so thats a no aswell IMO
Punto, CV boot goes on a regular basis.

Same here - mine would never start before 10am if it was cold or damp out :?

The garage thought I was having a laugh when I kept taking it back

I used to own a 25 from new - had it 9 years did around 80k miles. As others have said head gasket is the main problem - they tend to go around 50k miles (mine went at 56k). Only other problem I had was the rear brake cylinders needing replacing (probably cause I didn't replace the brake fluid when I should have). Other slight problem you may get on older cars is the electric cables start splitting where it goes through the boot lid but this is easily sorted.

They are cheap to buy and not a bad size. The other point to remember is that if you get a pre 2001 model this would have been built when factory was in BMW hands and quality control was probably better.

Have a browse in the Rover forum if you are interested in getting one

The Rover 25 - I couldn't wait to get rid but then a few years later bought a Streetwise  the parts are quite expensive, cost me £170 for a new alloy when I hit a lump of concrete in the road and took over a week to get it too. Oh and I snapped the indicator stalk by accident
