My friend was wanting the same thing and i couldnt find any deals so he phoned sky and said he was going to cancel and go with bt vision and managed to get them to agree to install a free sky plus box to stop him leaving sky. Dont know whether this would work for everyone but worth a shot if you cant find any other deals

I suggest saying that you work shifts and are missing all of your favourite programmes, and have been offered the equivalent of sky+ from virgin or bt with no extra cost.

Is a good time to try now, say you are getting free equipment from virgin/bt to get you to swop over, if they offer you it at a reduced amount say you cant really afford it after christmas.

I tried the same trick (threaten to cancel, ask for upgrade), but got nowhere, so I cancelled anyway, waited one month, my wife then signed up as a new customer, via Quidco, so we got the box for free anyway.

It must really depend on who you talk to at Sky as I tried my hardest but they just weren't interested (even after I cancelled).

Nuts, just called through and told the guy that Viirgin were offering the same package for a very slightly cheaper price, but with quidco I could get the installation down to nothing. Got absolutely nowhere, he didn't even offer to reduce the price of box or installation. Have given 30 days notice to cancel. BTW I'm paying £45 per month, even have a Sky Credit Card too, on which I'm spending £1000 a month, have been with Sky for 7 years now. :x

Depends who you speak to, you could try calling back - otherwise they usually (but not always) call YOU back before the 30 days is up and offer you stuff

In the last few months I've received letters offering free sky plus to my friends and family and £50 M&S vouchers for me. I'm waiting for this to come again and then my sister will register the sky into her name as a new customer and we are all happy. Must be a new customer though!! Depands on how many adults are in the house,

There is me and my wife, does it work if you have the same surname?

It certainly has before. Someone managed to get the 12 months half price offer from Simply Digital that did this. (They were going to say the other half had moved out and taken the gear with them if asked - but they weren't!

Not guaranteed though!

My old man has been with Sky since the analogue days, 16 channels, including free Sky Movies, Screensport and Lifestyle. Anyway he tried to get a box for nothing. They refused point blank. He cancelled, switched off Jan 4th, still no contact from Sky. He spoke to one of them blokes in town centres that sell sky, they offered him Sky+ for £49 plus 3 months 1/2 price so effectivley +£20 on the top package. He explained how he cancelled and they said not to worry, just use a different bank, credit card, wifes account.

if you get through to somebody who wont offer anything to you, simply hang up and try again. i did this just before xmas and got a totally free sky+ box and installation from saying my work patterns had changed and missed programmes i watch. as it was the xmas period i just said that i couldnt afford the £49 box i was originally offered then after he "spoke to his manager" i managed to get it all for free

That was before Xmas. The exact same thing happened last January - where they just took a harder line. There is no doubt that will change once more - but at the mo, they aint playing ball!
