Are Sony Ericcson phones badly bult? had problems with 2 in a year

Got a W595 December 2008, worked great till about July last year when it stopped working, or at least it stopped charging and taking it to a store they said it had condensation as the metal pins were a bit green/mouldy.

I got another Sony Ericsson phone around December 2009 which had the same battery and charger as older phone so found my old charger and battery to be working as well as my old phone just not charging.

But my newer phone has been having issues in the last month, strange ones actually as it wouldnt charge at all in one of my wall sockets but worked ok in another with both chargers, then on the same socket on another attempt it started charging but the battery lasted a day before dying so maybe its a wall socket issue?

Finally I went on holiday and left my chargers at home so bought a travel charger, it didnt work so assumed I had a dud charger, but took my phone to a 3 store to be certain and their charger didnt work but as soon as I got home from holiday the phone charged right away on my original charger! and then suddenly the travel charger worked!

I just find it strange how I have had 2 tempermental Sony phones in a year with pretty much the same issues with charger socket.

So are they built bad or is it just they make charger sockets bad or something else.

I've been using them for 9 years and have yet to have one break, still got them all working fine.

Sony Ericsson havent been about as 1 company for 9 years lol, I had a Sony phone 6 years ago and it was fantastic and had Ericsson phones when they were around and they were great too just find it strange 2 phones of a similar age had the same issues.

Used the James Bond one (K800i or something) for years and years - I left it out in the rain for 3 days once, and the thing still bloody worked.

Def strange then that last year in the middle of a hot summer that when I took it to store they said it was water damage/condensation though I did spill some lemonade next to it once for a second but wiped it off right away so it shouldnt of gone in that deep.

the older models were solid as rocks. Up until around the k850i. After that forget it. I've had problems charging all of mine and my family's at one time or another. One minute they charge the next they don't. Same with headphones, one minute they work the next they don't. Mine constantly restarts too and says invalid sim, over and over. Mostly when doing something important too. I'm not the only one who gets this either. Best mate is high up in SE and he agrees the build quality isn't what it used to be.

Lol thats the very issue I am having, last year it either didnt charge at all, charged fine or charged fully then dropped charge either within minutes or a few hours.

My SE W595 has started to shut itself off if I closed it too firmly of set it down on the table too hard (too hard means in normal fashion, now it needs handling with kid gloves) :?

Build quality is a reflection on many things these days be it Sony Ericsson phones, politcs, education...superficial. The whole idea of rushing gadgets out unfinished with features to be added later and firmware that is yet to be sorted out to meet the deadlines set by marketing people and competitors. If it doesn't work you send it back and you will probably upgrade within 12-18 months anyway. All planned into the manufacturers and marketers costs. :)

i am on my third sony ericsson phone now. i have had the k800i, the c902 and i now have the satio. the only one i've ever had a problem with is the c902 and that was because i was unlucky enough to receive a faulty one. was sent off for repairs before they gave me a replacement and had no probs with the replacement one at all. i think SE phones are built really well, my old K800i is still going strong, my daughter is now using my old C902 and even my satio has no problems

My W995 been problem free. Had a W980 last year and it occasionally shut itself off. Only had my W585 for a few months before I sold it and went back to my trusty W810 (a truly great phone in its time) but never had any probs with it.

Went from a classic w810i to a w910i several years ago, aswell as 3 other family members, every single one was faulty. Don't think I'll go back again, got the Nokia 5800 at the moment but it's just too darn s-l-o-w. So HTC Desire in a few weeks time.

Reading through the Vodafone forum I'd agree with you as a lot of people have had trouble with the K850i and other SE's around that time.
