Evening all.

Have been shopping today for new school shoes for my daughter. I usually buy her patent black ones in Clarks but they don't have any

Have seen some patent Startrite ones for £36, can anyone recommend them?

And do the sizes come up true to size?

Thank yous x

Great shoes, equal in quality and fit to clarks if not more so. Not noticed any difference in fit to clarks size as we used to take the kids to clarks to be measured then go and buy startrites

Thank you, just found a brand new pair on eBay for £11.99 so have bought them, but they are the actual size Clarks measured her as so will have to hope they don't come up small

might be ok its only half a size? I use clarks and startrite because both my girls are 'e' width fittings and quite often clarks dont have anything that fits so I have to go to startrite and they always are half a size smaller, think they maybe european which always runs small

i recently went to clarks and they didnt have the right width for the little ones feet.. I mentioned Startright and the SA said that they were EITHER half a size smaller or bigger- but there was definately a difference. saying that, why not kindly ask the ebay seller to cancel transaction- is that possible? im not sure if one can back out once deal's done:?

not supposed to, i will get a strike on me for not paying :-(

edit: Just searched around on Google and the main opinion seems to be that Startrite tend to come up slightly bigger than Clarks, I have bought them now anyway so will give them a go.

Will update this thread with my findings when I find out! :giggle:

Patent leather shoes are lovely- it's a leather that has been coated with a high gloss finish, so that it has exceptional shine..

£36 for a pair of shoes they are likely to grow out of very quickly?

My parents could never afford things like this, and yet I seem to walk quite normally.

Scare mongering parents into spending a fortune so your kid doesn't walk like Quasimodo.

perhaps but when you have tried them out of asda/tesco for example and they all slide off her feet because they do not fit properly then what choice do oyu have both my girls are 'e' width fittings so I cannot buy them anywhere else even if I wanted to as they do not fit properly, they just rub on her and cause lots of blisters and pain

I find that Clarks more than pay for themselves - they are usually only replaced to get a bigger size. My daughter's last shoes cost £34 from Clarks and were purchased last June - I have only had to replace them due to the heel wearing down too much, but she has gone up in size slightly anyway.
I have bought shoes from Asda and Tesco before for between £6 and £10 and neither lasted a month so they were a false economy. That was before I had ever bought Clarks school shoes and now I wouldn't go back.

I buy the patent/shiny leather ones because then I have the added bonus of them being impossible to scratch :-D

The fact that they have so much vareity of fits is an added bonus for me and is not the primary reason I go for clarks. It is only my kids school shoes that I buy from there, otherwise I buy Nike and Next shoes usually for my son and anything pretty for my daughter

Shoes from eBay are fine, btw - collected them today :)

I know this is an old post I am commenting on but I have had a real issue with sizeing clarks vs startrite I had my daughters feet measured at John Lewis I was told she was a 6 e and chose a lovely clarks pair they had none in her width then I chose a startrite pair they had no shoes in that width for my to buy which i found rather annoying!!

I don't know about anyone else but Clarks is just ridiculous now. All the fancy iPad/electronic measuring equipment is meaningless nonsense when a good proportion of the time there's no stock and you'll be offered the next size up with a narrower fit if you're lucky.
