It's the weakest version. Might buy to try out but want to know if they're allowed...

"it seems the only legal laser pointers in the UK are Class II with less than one milliwatt of power. "

Maybe.... NOT! That one is scary. If you get that in your eye it will like burn it and ruin your eye lens.

The American military are testing a class of laser that can melt tanks from a reconnaissance plane 25,000ft+ up.

No I didn't. But your saying a laser, albiet, is out of UK regulations and against our law.

But you'd rather blame this countrys downfall on people owning lasers?

Our stupid neighbours friend shined one of these in my sons eye when he was about 12 months eye. He was looking out of the window when we saw the dot reflecting off his face. She had the ********** of her life I can tell you, How stupid she was about 15 at the time so should have known better. Luckily my son was ok.

I nkow these may seem like fun, but people can have their vision seriously damaged with these lasers. I've worked in labs with lasers and there are various precautions that you need to take apart from wearing the correct type of safey glasses. This includes not having reflective surfaces anywhere near the laser, e.g. a watch or rings or anything like that. You may not think a laser is anywhere near other people, but all it takes is for you to move it over something reflective and you can flash it in someone's eyes including your own. Something as simple as a metal door handle can do it. They really aren't worth the risk of either your own or someone else's eyesight!

Agree, if only the uneducated could be educated :-(

ive got the "true" 50mW version from DX and its great, though as people have said they can be dangerous. Never point it at anyone. If you are sensible with it though then there isn't any reason it will hurt anyone!
#18
But what do you do with it?? Honestly! I can imagine pointing whilst doing a presentation...then?

I play with mine at night, pointing at the sky, I just find it cool seeing the beam shoot off into the sky.

Evolution was wasted on some people.

They're only like 1-5mW though, dealextreme sell upto 200mW. I'm pretty sure class 3 lasers are legal in the UK(my 10mW is a class 3).

Yeh well thers tons of lasers etc in electrical equipment, like games consoles for example, whats stopping someone take it out and make something with it anyway.

Optical mouse's don't use lasers, they use infra red. And laser mouses, use invisible(to the eye) lasers so it wouldn't work.

I dunno,I'm just saying my mouse here say Laser on back, and the safety advise as rubbed off through use on the base.
