Are you a lark or an owl? Are you at your best early in the morning or late at night? Whatever the answer, scientists believe they may now know why some of us are early risers while others prefer to burn the midnight oil.
The answer appears to lie in our genes.
Researchers at the University of Surrey say they have found a link between people's preference for mornings or evenings and a gene called Period 3.
This gene is one of those involved in regulating the body's internal clock. It comes in two forms - a shorter and longer one.

I'm a night owl that longs to be a lark.

I've got a very demanding job that needs me to be very alert but yet I can't sleep before 12.30am.

My husband is a lark - so he's awake whilst I'm sleeping and I'm awake whilst he's in bed!

I've tried for years to change - went to bed early, stayed up all night so I'll go to bed early next night, set alarms even on weekends etc etc

Realised that 'snooze' is my enemy and not my friend but I still can't change - has anyone else had this problem?

You may get bias opinions at the moment.

I like the night, don't like the morning at all! I now turn the alarm of in my sleep so have to place it far enough away to make me get out of bed and turn it off. Which I always do because I don't like distubing other peoples sleep. I'm fine in the morning if I don't go to sleep though, untill about 4-5pm where I come over tired, but at 7-8pm i'll be wide awake again no matter how tired I was previously.

I'm a night owl, always have been. I have to literally force myself to go to beds most nights, in winter when it stays dark late I often get myself into terrible habbits, not going to bed til 7 or 8am and not getting up until 4pm!! There's been weeks at a time in winters past that I have not even seen daylight lol

Both - Always fall asleep early hours of the morning but back up early in the morning. Usually have an hours kip as well in the afternoon between work.

I'm a night owl but a lark through force (damn 2 year olds)
I've always functioned better at night rather than first thing in the morning.

OMG the perfect wife...LOL

I can conform as required....have stayed up all night if I have a job that has to be done..then in work following day....this lack of sleep usually catches up with you a few days later....also sometimes have to get up at 4 a.m to drive somewhere and no problem..in fact prefer driving through the night for long distances.

Bed early int evening..NEVER...well put it this way..depends on the comapny!! LOL

Definitely a night-owl. I just can't sleep early - ie before 1AM -which is a pain, as I'm up at 05:30 every morning for work
