My friends used to say when we were younger that even if we all had £10 each, mine would go the furthest, ie I would probably have the most to show for that £10 and still have money left over to save!!
I have friends now who earn a wad (£60,000 and above) and still manage to spend it every month and complain of having no money.

i dont have much money to spend, but what i do spend goes a really long way, am incredibly savvy when it comes to money, both of the children are encouraged to save, although with the eldest its a little hard now as she wants so much more

I'm a saver. Almost £2,000 saved atm!

i save! i don't have a credit card or even an overdraught!
i was bought up hearing "if you can't afford it then don't buy it" hope it rubs off on my children when they get older

likewise-a bit of both for me-been through the years where we had to scrape for every single penny and its a bit more relaxed now-I like my gadgets/blurays/concerts etc but the mortgage is paid off now and old age is taken care of so there isnt the same imperative to deny ourselves stuff now.

Same. My girls have investments, bonds and bank books. We also save every month, yet still manage to go on 2 or 3 fantastic holidays a year and don't go short on anything.

It's all relative I guess. We all live within our means. Earn more, you spend more.

I've always 'kidded' myself with the amount of money that comes into our bank on a monthly basis. If I can afford the bills, I can surely afford to save some so I don't consider the pension, savings, shares, premium bonds etc to be a saving. I consider them to be bills.

That way, when I get all the money back, it's a bonus! :-D

Wow, lots of savers, that's great. Sassie, that's exactly what my mum was like with us when we were growing up, we didn't have much at all. She did take out endowment policies though, paying in only a couple of pounds a week on them, and she is reaping the benefits now!

Some don't live within their means though, they spend all they earn and then some more. I reckon a fairly large percentage of the population don't have any savings at all.
It was your thread about the abolishment of the Child Trust Fund that made me wonder if people actually do save.

I used to spend a lot on unnecessary stuff I saw on here, but I've got that (almost) under control.

Enjoy it whilst you can, it'll be no use to you when you're dead !
Money is there to be used, not locked away in a bank of no use

I want one of them, if it was a bit highed I'd have ordered in a second.

Well my guess is my son whos 9 will brake a leg on it trying to surf down it standing up and hopefully my daughter will use it normally.

Hubs has just got home, i've not told him to get out there and build it yet :w00t: i'll let him eat his dinner first, then tell him

I suppose we are a combination of both, we do have savings but we also have a bank loan, used it to start up hubbys business, which is doing ok now. We use credit cards to pay for everything, but always pay it off at the end of the month, we get points for spending on it so it actually saves us money that way.

Dont really put money away for ourselves just now as we cant afford it. but we put away for the kids when we can. Things are a tighter with hubby being self employed and with having 3 kids as well. but we save as much as we can. when I go back to work full time I am sure that will ease the finances a bit.

I must admit though I am very careful with what I spend it on, being an accountant I like to know where every penny went and to have something to show for it.

"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddddyyyyyyy!"
