Why do people insist on having barbecues? They should be banned!

Is air pollution, on a hot day like this we have had to have the windows and doors all shut most of the day because of various people having barbecues - they STINK!

Kelly you start the campaign & i'll join you  I can never understand why cook something to almost black & with a very high chance of catching food poison.

Yea, cook it properly, reduce risk of food poisoning, tastes better because not burnt, quicker - then take it outside!

We only get a few nice weekends a year, so why should you not be able to put washing out or have to be stuck inside on a lovely day like today if you dont want to smell other peoples barbecues?
#17
I love barbecues. They are great for getting people together, having fun, kids are out playing rather than sat in their bedroom playing console games and adults are actually conversing with each other. We have them in the summer at our block of flats and it gets the neighbours together.

My neighbor complains just like you when we have a bbq she even threatened the letting agency with legal action. The letting agency told us to have as many as we like.

Seriously though get a life we have bbq weather for two or three months out of twelve. Live with it or move to a detached house in the middle of nowhere.

i like the smell of them, although never have them as i struggle to cook in a kitchen let alone a garden
#21
We had a lovely bbq today but always invite our neighbours plus we put the bbq right up the top of our garden out of the way of neighbours washings.

I love the smell of BBQ's and the food cooked on it
#22
This thread doesn't smell of bbq's. It smells of mardy bums!
#23
OP maybe you should stay in your bedroom with the door and curtains shut during the summer...as you sound like a right hoot

Think that sounds great, but you can have all that and cook the food in a kitchen, just because I said I dont like barbecues, doesnt mean I dont like parties or being outside or people getting together or anything

Have never complained to our neighbours about it, its their garden and its up to them what they do in it. We get on really well with all of our neighbours

Just because I dont like barbecues? I am all for having a party and getting people together etc, just without polluting the air with a foul smell

Doesnt normally annoy me quite as much but today it has been pretty much all day from 10am this morning, various people having barbecues. Seems stupid that on a lovely day like today we have had to have tumble drier on and been stuck inside with the windows shut. Would of been nice to have at least an hour where we could of enjoyed the weather ourselves!

Couldnt agree more with the op, put the washing on the line, go out to get it in after a lovely hot day and the winkie next door has been smoking my clothes to hell and back with another damn bbq. The only upside is he is a big fat porker so fingers crossed a heart attack will be coming soon.
#27
I had a BBQ yesterday and was doing the cooking, standing in the smoke and my clothes hardly smell, nothing compared to pub smoke when there was no ban.
I dont understand how your washing, which must be a good few metres away, is smelling...unless your neighbours are burning tyres lol

i looove bbq's!

I tell you what, get a better job and buy a bigger house and garden if you don't like it. You want to live in a cramped housing estate then that's what you get.
#31
BBQ's in the summer are a must.

....but bonfires of crap on a hot evening when you need the windows open overnight. People who light these need chucking on them, themselves.

We dont live on a cramped housing estate, and its very stereotypical to assume that because my neighbours have barbecues they must be from a 'cramped housing estate'. There is nothing wrong with living on a housing estate, some may not be in the best of areas but others are perfectly fine, depends on the people living there, same as any area and any type of housing.

We live in a very nice area in a semi-detached house with a very big garden. We have lovely neighbours and are very happy where we are thankyou.
banned#34
why are you moaning then?
#35
If you have a very big garden put your washing down the other end lmao
#36
What a bore you must be !!!
#37
I must be something wrong, the food is always better, it is always cooked correctly, I've never poisoned anyone and the food is never burnt.

Where am i going wrong with my BBQ?

BTW I really like the smell of other peoples BBQ's wafting over my way, makes me want one too.
#38
kelly_o_fanatic what would your solution be that would be fair and just? Banning them outright doesn't seem fair or just.
#39
on a hot day like this we have had to have the windows and doors all shut most of the day because of various people having barbecues - You need to go and join them then ? stuck indoors when its 80 degrees out there crazy

Cant just move the washing line around the garden all day

Agree with that, just would be nice if everyone had them around a similar time! Was constant from about 10am - 8pm yesterday.

If everyone had them around tea time (for example) would only be a few hours and that wouldnt be too bad
