Hi.
my wife has had her car for about 2 months and the cigarette lighter never worked so today went to fix it.
first thing I did is locate the fuse and didn't have my tester on me so just swapped it with another 15 amp fuse and Ut still didn't work.
so I went and bought a new lighter and had to strip down the center console to get it out and unplugged it and because I had bought a universal one I had to mess around trying to get it to fit and got it hooked up and it still DIDN'T work.
so then I got my tester out and checked and there was no live coming to it :(
turns out when I swapped the fuse to test it the fuse I had swapped it with was blown also... lol
I know I'm a idiot :)

I think we've all done similar things -put it down to experience - and know you'll never do the same again , when maybe time is more pressing . :)

What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon freezing your coconuts off! lol X)
I'm glad you got there eventually :)
I hope you told the wife it was a seriously complex and dangerous procedure? :p

Been there, done that. Always expect the unexpected. Had a headlamp fail between checking lamp and checking beam alignment during MOT.
With my luck the story that I remember is the bloke who's mains tester failed. I always test it before and after testing a cct. May be a myth but if can happen, it will to me.

Yep - like the time a fuse blew in a plug and I didn't have a tester and didn't know if the spare fuse was ok

And trying to rush the job and not thinking with a clear head I undid the plug popped out the fuse, replaced the fuse.......then just plugged it straight into the socket.............

Yaba daba oooooouch - I hadn't put the cover back on the plug

Just like my dad 20+ years ago with the old cathode valve tv's - one valve would pop (the back of the tv would already be off) he'd get a new valve and just take out the old and replace with the new... yikes

And then there's the time when my dad had messed about with a socket on the wall and there's my older brother in his pedal car (remember this is 20+ years ago and the pedal cars were metal) - yes you got it - shot half way across the room

Not now (almost) the most dangerous thing is when he's watching "Only Fools and Horses" or some other repeated crap - he'll watch a little then fall asleep

And then if you grab the remote or try to turn the tv over he wakes up OR when he's woken up he'll find the +1 channel to watch the same episode he fell asleep watching

He was a self employed window cleaner (before Health & Safety made things difficult - have you ever seen someone walk around a 6" concrete ledge to clean windows 3 or 4 storey high or strap another ladder with rope to the top of a 3.5mtr double to to extend the reach

He's old school (or should I just say old
