If its faulty you should be able to return it. obviously something like a player, camera etc is exempt otherwise people would buy it use it for an event or something then return it. a free hire shop!!
#2
My understanding of the 30 day Argos policy is that it can ONLY be returned if faulty, not if you change your mind etc.
#3
If its faulty they have to take it back by law.

I thought the 30 days was for "change your mind" stuff

The sale of goods act is very clear on this as in the link
http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html

Should mean that you can only return it if its faulty and cant return it for any other reason!
#6
If you bought something from argos you can return it if it develops a fault. Could they have meant that it can not be returned under the special warranty that they give most items where if you "Just dont Like It" you can return it within 30 days. This is done on mobile phones and certain jewellery such as pierced earrings.

Is that a typo error, Brangelina?

what do you mean starsparkle??

The only way that any shop would be able to refuse the return of a faulty product is if they made the customer aware of the fault prior to purchase and that the fault was clearly displayed and identified.

I assume that you meant that you could only return the product to Argos if faulty? And if so then this is entirely legal as the money back guarantee is their company policy and not a law. this allows them to dictate which products are included and excluded from the money-back guarantee policy.

All it means is that you cant return it if you change your mind and decide you dont want it.
If it is faulty however, they would give you a full refund

sorry to keep repeating myself but the girl who served me told me that i COULD NOT return it if FAULTY. and then asked if i still wanted to buy it. i thought to myself, we'll see who can't return it if faulty. i'm the type who asks to see the manager or writes and e-mails if not happy!!

Bottom of webpage states:

Additional Information

Please note that this product is excluded from our 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Obviously girl on checkout was not a member of MENSA.

Then the person on the till was mistaken. They do not understand what exempt from 30 days guarantee means. You CAN, and will be able to, without a fight, return it if it is faulty :)

I managed to return some iPods (non faulty) for a full refund before Xmas. Argos Direct would not take them, but said a store manager's discretion might see me right, which it duly did! They were all unopened, but had they been opened, I would have had no chance...

Doesnt matter what she said, the company policy dictates the return status regardless of what the staff say. But whoever served you did get it wrong and even tho the receipt says exempt from the money back guarantee, the law states that the retailer must accept the return of a faulty item if they were selling it as new.

You wont even have to put up a fight, just go the to customer service desk and say that the item is faulty and they will replace it for you :)

by LAW they have to replace/refund if faulty

I think its anything which can have personal data stored on them, hence the exclusion on phones, memory cards, cameras etc.

Stick it in the microwave for 30 secs, bust it , take it back demand to see a manager etc etc stamp feet up and down hold breath, get money back. ;-)

Generally staff in Argos are often friendly until you want to return something, when I got my 360 from them it was faulty they refused to return it as they said its up to the manufacturer, after arguing for 15 minutes and a queue of people annoyed at me they offered an exchange "this time only" but I said no I wanted a refund as was worried about having problems in the future and got "why do you want a refund, thats suspicious" saying if it was them they would take a exchange and count themselves lucky that the shop agreed to it.

After more arguing I kept quoting the sale of goods act and I finally got a refund but was told I was banned from the store! lol.

his birthday is three weeks away, so fingers crossed it works!!

I returned a PVR to argos which was exempt from the 30 day thing too, it was faulty so they took it back no questions asked.

To be honest it's a pretty stupid rule anyway cuz you can always say it has an intermittent fault anyway.

Yes, although I don't think they are obliged to refund you, just repair or replace it.

What would be the point of returning a digital file? They will have provided a copy and retained the original. If your mp3 has become corrupted then you should be able download a fresh copy, if not then just ask and one should be provided.
