Argos charging twice for card payments on Friday 24 October?

Just checked my online bank statement and noticed that a couple of Argos items I bought separately on Friday 24 Oct have been charged for twice. I've just got off the phone from my bank and they've informed me that Argos had a problem with their payment system last Friday and have charged many people twice.

I'd therefore advise you check your statements if you bought anything by card from Argos on that day. Anyone else had problems?

hasn't affected me but glad people like you are putting stuff like this up as people like myself rarely check their bank statements

I very rarely check mine and just happened notice 2 duplicate entries tonight. According to my bank this has affected many Argos customers. Maybe people haven't checked their statements yet?

i know why they charged you twice...
they need to recover the £450 million they lost due to the recession

once again, this highlights the need to track your finances. I use MS Money which is superb. helps no end in managing your finances.

From this I discovered that cash I was withdrawing from a local Halifax cashpoint had a habit (about 1 in 20 times) of not getting registered. I use that cashpoint all the time now :)

Yeah... me too... two transactions of £34.98 on Friday 24th October on my credit card.

I was going to call up the credit card company this morning to inform them, and then chase up Argos. I doubt it will be an issue, but its annoying!

Iv got this problem as well, £115.39 been taken twice

Was on the phone to Argos about 8.30am, they know of the problem it has affected everyone nationally who paid with there card. An they are issuing refunds to everyone today & we should get the money back in our accounts in 5 working days.

If we get any bank charges because of this we are to send in bank statements & with the charges & they will give us the money for them.

At least the problem is being sorted but its a nice way for argos to earn interest on money that is not there own. When it should be in our own banks earning interest

Me too.

Just checked my Amex online recent transactions and two for £12.99 last Friday - I used the quick pay machine.

Amex say get in touch with Argos, and if they're awkward Amex will take over.

Hope I haven't chucked my Argos receipt.

Contacted Argos this morning... the lady on the phone apologised and said they were aware of the problem and were issuing refunds.

I'll post another reply once I've received it.

Thanks to the original poster :)

Mine has just been refunded.
Anyone reckon we've a chance of getting some kind of compensation from Argos?

What a scam the Argos card is!

If you pay online they say that you have to pay at least 5 working days before because it takes that long to process the payment into their system (even though it comes out of your account immediately).

Well, I've done a bit of digging and have found out that the 5 day delay for online payments is a downright lie and the banks are right ...payment is going into the Argos account when the bank says it does.

I would be interested to hear from anybody who has had to pay very large fees for paying after the due date when they paid before the due date. Let's name and shame!
