Argos furniture - any good?

I need two mid-size wardrobes and Argos seem to have some interesting ones. However, knowing that Argos isn't really selling top-class stuff, I am in doubt whether I should go for it.
Did anyone here bought furniture from Argos? How good/bad your experience is? Of particular interest is quality of sliding compartments in chest. Are these sitting on rails (or whatever it called) or just have wooden guides? Does it feels very cheap or bearable?
Your comments are really appreciated.

I don't know if you could tell wooden rails by the store itself. From my experience I've had wooden slots/rails and proper roller rails from the same place, depends more on the product.

Personally I think the quality would be about what you would expect. Not to say that makes them worse than a lot of places but most flat-packed, put it together furniture is slightly shaky. Of course if it's only lightly used that should be fine and in the case of a wardrobe that's probably true. My experience is in desks, I would never buy a flat-pack desk again.

One of the salespeople from a similar store told me this:

On the items they build in store, they use lots of extra glue and nails and dowels and staples and whatever you use to put these things together, to make them feel more stable when in the store.

If you were willing to do this yourself, you would probably increase the life span of the item!

Well.. I don't expect it to be top-notch, however, when I went to MFI, I wasn't quite impressed by their quality, so why pay more? :)
If I would know for sure that this wardrobe definitely got roller rails, I'd buy it.
I am not too scared of flat-packs, almost all my furniture (including bed) came flat packed and even after extensive use (yes, that's including bed! :D) it is still OK.

Glue is good suggestion, BTW - I normally use it for stuff that I know I won't be disassembling in future.

Thanks for your response, BTW :D

This seems a good deal, and lx have tons of vouchers and 4.5 quidco.

As said, with most flat pack stuff, its how you put it together that counts.
Its difficult to say or see the quality of the drawers, (most likley part to fail) If they are thin hardboard bases as most are, they are not the best quality and the base will bow and fail. More sturdy are ply bases 4 or 6mm.
What I do now with all drawers, kitchen or bedroom, is run a bead of gunable glue (evostik "nail and seal") along the inside edges horizontal and vertical.

The Argos wardrobes are the same range as Homebase. Go to Homebase and have a look. If you are not in a rush for them it is worth waiting for one of Homebase's 10% days.

Er.. what is "lx"? Are you talking about littlewoods/index? Their range is different and I can't find anything I like :(

Good suggestion about nail-n-seal though!

Christmasshopper

Great advice! Actually, their 10% off day is tomorrow :D I'll be there!

UPD: Dang! " This item is ONLY available to purchase ONLINE and is NOT available IN STORE Delivery currently 28 days, subject to stock". That's Homebase for you :(

Oh, I am sorry :( I haven't noticed that first word in your sentence was a link.
This wardrobe really looks nice, but it won't fit - too wide. :( They do have something very similar to Argos one so might go for it.

you really do get what you pay for.
my philosophy on argos furniture is this.
get it for rooms upstairs......it looks great but does not get the use or exposure that rooms downstairs do.
lounge, kitchen and dining areas should get the full treatment as regards quality solid built furniture.
:)

Bungalow? I'm not that old :D But even then my wife would force me to convert loft, so there always be something "upstairs" :)

And "thanks for advice" was nothing more than "thanks" :) Didn't meant it to sound sarcastic or something.
BTW, check your reputation, you might notice sudden increase ;)
