Just ask at the hospital on Wednesday after you get your arm plastered.

it probably needs to be a lot tougher than cling film,so i can have a bath or shower without it getting wet at all

Good luck with the op mate, I'm going back into hospital on wednesday too, as my arm has been in a cast the last couple weeks but I hope you didn't damage it the same way I did. :giggle:

I've been using a plastic bag with an elastic band whenever I have a bath or shower, which could work shortterm for you and to be honest, it doesn't look much worse than the protective cover I've seen on the links.

Good luck with your op mate and I hope the docs are more competant than mine, as they don't have a clue what's gone wrong with my op and I still can't straighten my fingers.

BTW, I hate using those on the places where it's supposed to go, so why would someone stick it on their arm.........surely it would feel too tight on there and reduce pleassure too. :giggle:

sorry to hear that, they cant fluff my arm up much more,i can barely feel my fingers due to muscle and nerve damage,im hoping this time round brings some relief from the constant nagging pain.
Hope you get yours sorted soon:)

i had this with my leg - a bin bag and a bit of parcel tape works just fine, as long as you don't submerse the limb totally. Don't keep it on too long either - your arm will sweat inside and will make the cast smellier sooner!!!

I just used a carrier bag and elastic bands when my arm was in plaster. Only really need a cover if you are going swimming or something Some available HERE

My hospital is great and not trying to save money or anything, but didnt even tell me about these

BTW - I was told to try and keep my arm upright when I was asleep to stop it swelling, which meant it was out of the covers and cold - putting a bedsock over it kept my fingers warm

Cheers mate. :)

I've spoken to several docs about it and they've told me loads of different things including my hand should be fine immediately after the op, I need to force my fingers to straighten, there might be some tendom damage, it's impossible that there could be any damage, they might need to operate again and they're hoping my fingers will eventually start working but it could become permanent. :x

The night before they decided to let me out, they said a consultant would see me about extracting the metal in my hand but they won't use any drugs etc and then they woke me up just before midnight to tell me I'm not to eat or drink from this point because there's a chance they're going to operate in the morning. :?

Then I spoke to a consultant first thing in the morning and they told me I'm to have a live operation behind an x-ray screen where they will extract the metal while I'm awake (I did this before but it was only extracted by a further 3-4mm and it sticks out my hand anyway) until they can see improvement but if it doesn't work, then I'll need a further op.

15 mins after that, I was told I can go home and I just need to keep forcing my fingers.

There hasn't been much improvement, so I'm worried they'll book me in for another op this week...which means it's gonna take longer to heal than they originally anticipated.

What happened with yours?

ohhhhh ouch poor you,i hope things work out for you.
Mines a long story but i had an accident 7 years ago and fractured my neck, that resulted in me adjusting my posture to adapt to the pain, but over time it made the muscles in my shoulder bad and i have nerve and muscle damage from the accident anyway.
The muscles on top of my shoulder are now a big mass and hurt like crazy, theyre going to strip back the muscle taking out all the bad and then plastering my left arm to let all the muscles rest for 6 weeks before i start physhio to regain the movement.
i'm hoping that i wont get the shooting pains down my arm anymore after that although theres no guarentees,at the moment i can barely move my left arm and my thumb and index finger i cant feel, fingers crossed eh

Damn mate.......I really feel like an idiot with how I'm going on about how devestated I am about my hand when I just read what you've gone through. :-(

Do they think it can get back to normal and have you considered private hospitals?

Health is one thing you can't mess around with and that's why I'm tempted to go private if they can't sort out my hand asap as well.

Good luck mate and here's a bit of rep, I know it's no consolation but after the events I've recently gone through, I've only just realised how difficult life can be and we all need to stick together.

I would say that one of the most important things to do in our situation is to remain optimistic and do everything they ask of us inorder to improve rapidly.

I've toyed with the idea of going abroad and going it private,if this doesnt work thats probably what i will end up doing as 7 years on and im still in pain, who cares about the debt id get into if its pain free its got to be worth it! keep smiling eh,it can only get better :)
