I turned on our laptop this morning and nothing would work right anymore. So I grabbed the disc to repair windows. Here's the problem, I get through the setup etc but when it comes to putting in the serial the laptop keyboard or trackpad doesn't work so I can't get past this ( we don't have a USB keyboard in the house as we only use the laptop. ( posting this from my iPod touch)
It's driving me CRAZY! Been sitting here for 5 hours now and don't know what to try anymore.
Help please guys. I would like to be done with this when my hubby comes home in 3 hours

Thanks :-)

I'm basically stuck in the cycle of installing and turning it off to try again .
Can't get out of the setup no matter what I do cuz it always resumes after turning it off and on again
I have fixed many computer probs over the years but never had something like that

Sounds like the drivers for your laptop hasn't installed or been installed

sounds like your laptop has mroe of a problem than just windows. surely the keyboard should work regardless of windows.

Yep I know. Thing is it worked before I started the repair and also works in dos
#5
check the bios see if anything is wrong like usb turned off or the ps2 ports(if it has any)
#6
Nope nothing is turned off. It's the laptops keyboard anyway not an external one.
Does anyone know how I can stop it from resuming the repair so I can completely restart it?
#7
go into the bios and select boot from the CD ROM - then start your laptop up with the rescu dusc in it.

Can you use the keyboard in the bios?

Yes. Also works in the setup until it installs the drivers

Is it an Acer? Try running it with the battery out on mains power.

Try installing Windows again leaving the battery out and running on mains power only

John how do I get out of the cycle of the laptop always trying to resume the repair from earlier?
#15
Why can it not finish the repair?

I managed to install a version of XP home to a different partition now as pro always tried to resume the repair.

Start > Run> MSconfig >boot.ini > check all boot paths
