Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Russian international midfielder, Andrey Arshavin has joined the Gunners from Zenit St. Petersburg on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

Arshavin, 27, who played a key part in Zenit’s UEFA Cup winning campaign last season, was also a member of the Russian EURO 2008 squad in which he scored two goals from his three appearances, earning him a place in the ‘Team of the Tournament’.

Arshavin won the Russian Premier League with Zenit in 2007, making a total of 232 appearances for his previous club, scoring 51 goals. During his time with Zenit, he was also part of the winning team that picked up the Russian Super Cup in 2008, the Russian Premier League Cup in 2003 and featured in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Manchester United in Monaco last August.

With 41 international caps for Russia, Arshavin has scored a total of 15 goals for his country. His versatility has allowed him to play in a variety of positions; the 2006 Russian Footballer of the Year started his career as a right midfielder, but has since played as an attacking midfielder and more recently has filled the ‘second striker’s’ role.

Lots !!!!

Hopefully this will kick start our season, and we will deal with those Midlands Monkies, Northern Scallies and Chelski lovers in the way that we know we should have, a lot earlier in the season.

If the day ever comes when a Manc says something interesting, amusing or relevant, it'll be like a JFK moment! :whistling:

This is a great signing for us and will finally give us more attacking options incase of our never ending injuries.

It's been a disaster that without Theo, we have no right winger and have to rely on Eboue, who has about 2% passing success rate and would be better suited as a stand in full back for Sagna.

Arshavin can also play as an attacking mid, so he can cover for Fabregas in his absence and can also play along with Cesc when we a lone striker.

It's a shame that we also didn't sign a defensive mid, as I believe that's our biggest weakness.

It's a shame united have fans like you, as they're no longer the most hated team in the country (chelsea took that mantle and now your local rivals are trying their hardest to take over) as united can play some pretty football and are actually starting to be liked but then a non local boy comes out and spouts more rubbish then he knows about footy.

I don't think you should laugh about missing out on Champions league footy....have you forgotten that you were KOd from the first phase a few years back...and that season was such a disaster that you not only got KOd from the champions league but didn't even reach the UEFA cup. :giggle:

How you have a short memory....unfortunately a lot of Manc fans have this very same disease. :whistling:

Well, we reached the champions league final and would of won it if the ref had considered leaving Lehmann on (he even admitted he would of not sent him off if he thought about his decision for a split second longer).

Yes we haven't won as many trophies as some but at least we're one of the only teams in the prem that haven't attempted to buy trophies and have created our own fortune rather than using dirty money.

A lot of United fans have even shorter memories because they were complaining that Chelsea bought the title but how many times have they smashed the british transfer record?

Ferdinand, Rooney and Berbatov alone cost nearly £100m, yet they complained about Chelseas spending prowess....:giggle:

It's only a bit of rival banter, Lol of coarse I remember when United got knocked out the Champions League and I remember getting mocked about it by Arsenal fans, Chelsea fans, The Piles fans etc...

This is my turn to mock rival fans etc...

On a serious note I think Arshavin will be a good signing Arsenal, I also think that Arsenal are a great team with a great manager. They play some extremely good football in the way it's meant to be played. Sometimes too good.

I much prefer United to be battling the league with Arsenal as opposed to Chelsea and Liverpool.

If United didn't win and it was a choice between Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal winning the league I'd choose Arsenal.

I hope we return to the good old days soon.

Couldn't agree more mate and respect for your reaction. :)

I'm a football fan before anything else, I love attractive football and actually was hoping United would win the last couple years rather than Chelsea, as well as the champions league last season.

I have a lot of respect for Fergie, especially after hearing about the way he went into football, rather than following in his family roots (can you imagine if he never became a manager?)
I have to say that I loved the rivalry between United and Arsenal for several years before the Emirates stadium meant that we had to sell our star assets before they became too old.

I have to admit that I have a weakness for Liverpool, United and even Spurs (despite them being our local rivals) and I like all fans providing they're not hooligans, as footy is all about entertainment.

Well now.....
According to TalkSport he signed after the deadline so it's illegal.
Thay have suggested that we report Arsenal for it as soon as he plays a game.lol

Apparently they are claiming adverse weather conditions affected the transfer - and are asking for an extended deadline ruling!
