Asda buys out Netto stores

baby asdas - watch out one stop shop

Asda has reached an agreement with Dansk Supermarked A/S to buy its subsidiary Netto Foodstores Limited.

The Walmart-owned supermarket giant Asda said the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, would allow it to convert Netto's UK stores into Asda stores by the middle of 2011.

Asda intends to integrate the stores into its new supermarkets division for units smaller than 25,000 sq ft.

The Office of Fair Trading still has to give its verdict on the transaction. Asda expects the deal to finalise this summer.

The Netto stores will continue to operate under existing management until the deal is completed.

Interesting, i think Netto got left behind in the cheap supermarket race and is struggling to shake it's bad image. Lidl and Aldi are doing better.

Great shame, less competition is bad news.

Excellent news !

End of the chavs supermarkets :-D

agree with you on the yellow bags - at least they had a pic of a dog on - i always take harrods bags ;-)

disagree about inner city council estate trash though

a lot of very nice people i know go there for the bargains - including myself and would imagine a few other HUKD members

some very good deals now and again - pennies make pounds

Netto is the bag with the doggie on with a basket in his mouth?. Went there a few times, alsways a few asian / chinese men in there. So i assume its popular with people who have just moved here for a job, or if they study. Makes no difference to me, as netto is far away from my house and i have no car :(

And to the op, one stop shop only has one new shop in my town!. not sure about elsewhere, guess they are many elsewhere, i sound like i live in a little village, but i dont :-D

surely you mean morrisons and asda lol

tbh, all offer brilliant value if you only buy their bogofs on branded goods and rotate deliveries each week. Saves me a small fortune over the year.

No I mean Tesco and Asda.

Both are over hyped rubbish, shops in my opinion.

They both operate a huge cartel on pricing.

I agree but play them at their own game and just buy bogofs and use free delivery codes

just got a huge order for £46 delivered from asda which would of cost £100+ elsewhere

e.g. 36 cans of tomatoes for £4, 12 tins of tuna for £3 etc......

I just scan hukd and buy the bogofs from each store lol and buy fresh veg / meat from local butchers / veg shops as asda / tesco stuff is rank and goes off in 2 days! :w00t:

I like asda, its always got stuff on offer, and to csiman, its ok if you have no car, to do shopping online, but if u have a car, you can go wherever, to what ever shop you fancy, and in asda they always have bread on offer for 20p, where full price it would be over £1

Lots of over stuff to. No sure about chav, isnt a chav just someone who likes tracksuits :p

People have different levels of standards and see faults with one thing different than the other

I went to a Netto before and it was tatty and not as cheap as they make out, went to another which was in a small old fashioned town and it had a lovely family butcher and cafe in but went to the bread part and there was stale mouldy loaves!

Saying that Tesco in my home town was next to the roughest flats you know and next to the housing estate which has murders every year, seriously the flats next to it have recently been knocked down as over the last 4 years many of the flats had been burnt out by people wanting a council house so doing it on purpose and it was always on the news, its also across the road from the area where its like drug dealers in many houses i.e dont get drugs from one dealer, go next door!

And the one where I am at uni is next to a rough estate again has a few murders every year and has constant security guards due to the amount of thefts!

stereotype much, does it make you feel better to categorise people? Does it somehow help comfort you to think all the, how you would say, 'scrags' live on council estates? and why would anyone assume this >> alsways a few asian / chinese men in there. So i assume its popular with people who have just moved here for a job. Are you really stuck so far in the past that you would look at someone who's skin is not white and immediately think 'oooh foreigners' I felt I had to comment just so I could pick my jaw up off the floor.

well I hate stereotyping, the amount of times people think its ok to strike up a conversation with you, full of assumptions that because you are white they can go all out on calling people because of their ethnicity and expecting you to be of the same opinion, it offends me, I have a mixed race child and find it really offensive when people dont take into consideration the possibility that you wont share their prejudices

times are changing, i appreciate you get some morons in life who think you are the same as them
but things are slowly getting better, I use chavs as a term to describe people who just wont conform to a law abiding life, probably could have described my dad nearly like that, but he worked for the rest of us to get an education so we had more choices in life

dont let it get you down,

Oh i wont, I just think sometimes it needs to be pointed out. I'm proud of the fact that there is no changing to be done in my family, we're fully progressed

not sure where a car comes into it. Its free delivery at the moment as luckily they substitute all the bargain offers when out of stock for better quality brands. Its a no brainer.

and no-one will spot me in asda cos its chav heaven (only a chav will tell you different :-D)
