ASDA changing Fuel Discount on it's Credit Card

Hey,

Just received this via email:

Dear xxx

Change to your ASDA fuel discount
We all know that 2008 was a tough year for families. The high oil prices meant that petrol prices and the cost of heating our homes were the highest they've ever been. We were pleased that we could continue to give you 2p off every litre of ASDA fuel when you paid with your ASDA Everyday Credit Card throughout this time.

Oil prices have now come down and so has the cost of fuel. ASDA proved its commitment to low fuel prices by passing on these lower prices straightaway.

Going forward, our customers are telling us that their most important issue is saving money on their shopping. To help with this, new customers who open an ASDA Credit Card account will receive the ASDA Reward Credit Card. This new card enables customers to earn points when they shop at ASDA but doesn't offer any fuel discount.

Your ASDA Everyday Credit Card will continue to offer you both a fuel discount and points when you spend, however we are making a change to one of these benefits. You can read more about this below.

The change to your ASDA fuel discount
You currently get 2p off every litre of ASDA fuel when you pay with your ASDA Everyday Credit Card. This benefit will end on 28th February 2009.

From 1st March 2009 you will receive 1p off every litre of ASDA fuel when you pay with your ASDA Everyday Credit Card. To get this benefit all you need to do is pay with your ASDA Everyday Credit Card and the saving will be given to you immediately.

It is our promise that we will always pass on the benefits of lower costs on oil prices to our customers, so you can rest assured that as well as the 1p off every litre discount you receive by using your ASDA Everyday Credit Card, you will always get the best possible prices on fuel at ASDA.

The ASDA Reward Credit Card
This month we launched the new ASDA Reward Credit Card. This card does not offer any fuel discount, but lets customers earn 2 points for each complete £4 they spend per transaction when they shop in ASDA and 1 point for each complete £4 they spend per transaction everywhere else they use their card. Customers will earn points on the first £10,000 they spend on their card each year. Customers can only have one ASDA Credit Card, but if you would prefer to transfer to the new ASDA Reward Credit Card you can visit our website at http://www.asdafinance.com and click on 'Credit Card' for more information on how to do this.

You can still keep your ASDA Everyday Credit Card
Although your fuel benefit is changing, all your other ASDA Everyday Credit Card benefits remain the same, including:

Earn 1 point for each complete £4 you spend per transaction on the first £12,000 you spend every year - each year we turn your points into ASDA money off your shopping vouchers.
5% off at all ASDA Living stores.
Free delivery on home shopping at ASDA.com when you spend £99 or more.

We hope you continue to enjoy the benefits of the card and would like to thank you for being an ASDA Everyday Credit Card customer.

******************

That will stop me using it. I'll probably use my cashback credit card, and get Tesco points instead!

Tight *****.

Thought they'd be more reaction on this as plenty of people have the ASDA card just for the fuel discount.

"Going forward, our customers are telling us that their most important issue is saving money on their shopping" - yeah because saving money on fuel isn't a top priority any more, my **** :x
