Lukus Avatar

Hey guys, I just phoned up Asda to see what price they were selling RDR and... well they just said- oh we're not selling that one, sorry!?!?! When I asked why not she just said, she got an email that they're not selling it.... HOW BIZARRE! I hope this just means that they're not selling until release...
SO
can anyone confirm that this ASDA lady is damn crazy and confused not selling with not selling until release??

THANKYOUPLEASE?!

She must have been crazy, as it's online so I would expect it to be instore too!

somebody else said the same in another thread

There was another thread on here that linked to an article about one of the big stores not going to sell RDR. Didn't give the reason why but heavily hinted it was ASDA.

Guess it was right....

I think they thought it may have been due to pricing.

Another forum post about it here, not read it yet:

EDIT: Original article:

Asda will not be selling instore this is due to a price disagreement with asda and the games makers.

it is online but will not be instore.

"Boycott" may be the wrong term.

There is a thread at GameSpot UK where an employee of Asda (allegedly) claims of a dispute between the title's supplier & ASDA:

"Midnight Launch in the UK":

Ok I can officially confirm Asda stores will NOT be selling RDR on release or anytime in the foreseeable future. This is apparently due to a dispute between them and the supplier. I can't give anymore info i'm afraid. RDR will be available from Asda online as it's a seperate company.

As for Tesco, I can only speculate. I would guess RDR will be available for purchase come 12.01am on Friday morning, in 24 hour stores. Really though, my guess is as good as yours.

Hope I helped, guys. Enjoy RDR when you do eventually get it! =]

Unless they've done that in the hope they will rather than knowing for sure they are.

The web site run by The Hut Group that has no connection with in-store sales.

According to the in-store announcements, the last title featuring "Nathan Drake" on the PS3 was called "Uncharted 2: Among the Thieves" [sic] so I wouldn't accept anything displayed or announced in-store as fact.

PS. From the "Red Dead Redemption (PS3 or XBox360) £29.75* delivered @ Tesco Ent" thread (comment #303):

It was me, it showed as £39.70

I doubt they will do a price drop but I hope im wrong

I was in Asda on Monday and they had a cardboard point of sale display just as I walked in, with various "coming soon" titles. Red Dead was one of them. I've already ordered it from Tesco online so I'm not really bothered, but I can confirm that some Asda stores at least had the promo bits for it, whether they go on to stock the game is a different matter.

Bad for consumers but good for the economy.

Regardless of price, the first deal listed after release will contain comments from the "regulars" stating "I won't touch this until it is £17.99" or whatever.

There's a first time for everything, I guess.

Which argument are you trying to win though? The fact you have seen the advertising, or that Asda are selling the product?

I did when he posted it. Hence my question (see post #31). It was not clear whether the photograph taken will prove the advertising campaign exists (but not necessarily the game is being sold) or whether the game is for sale.

So what did he mean?

If you assume one meaning of the statement he could quite easily claim he meant the other so he does not have to apologise.

The prolonged absence may be an attempt to find a loophole in anything said above.

Nobody disputed his claim that 'its been on there flat screen adverts in store for 3 weeks now, and on their little release chart' so I think its pretty clear what he meant.

Surely "ASDA are selling it.......in store" only has one meaning :w00t: and the "jeeez" we are all muppets didnt help matters lol

The only time you want alfonse to turn up in a thread trolling as per usual, he disappoints :-D

I, for instance, could not dispute that claim as I have not been in an Asda store in that period.

If you are looking for an apology, make it clear what he is apologising for; that's all I'm attempting to say.

You can bet there will either be no response, or a remark that will be worded as not to accept responsibility for something you think he meant.

Or he is setting-up a display now with as many copies of the game bought elsewhere to make it look like an Asda store has them, or an empty shelf with "SOLD OUT" written on it :)
